Musical Microwave Alerts You With MP3s

The only thing more annoying than a beeping alarm clock is a beeping microwave. So with help from their ad agency, an Argentinian appliance maker has created a limited edition model that plays MP3s when cooking is complete.

The BGH Quick Chef Music will only be available in limited quantities — ensuring it will fly off the shelves even with an inflated price tag — and features a single USB port on the side for connecting a flash drive full of music.

Details on how you select what file is played, copying MP3s locally, and even volume control are a little sparse since the microwave won’t be available until sometime in 2012. But I can confirm the idea is completely awesome, particularly if it lets you specify what song is played depending on what’s being cooked. And why stop at microwaves? There are ovens, washers, dryers, dishwashers and even toaster ovens that are just as annoying. [BGH via OhGizmo! via Technabob]

Wouldn’t you have it play while it’s cooking as well?

What a terrible design and marketing campaign.

Why would you put the usb port on the side? How many people are going to have their microwave in a cupboard or pushed up against a wall in a corner? Who honestly thought that putting the main feature in an inaccessible position was a good idea?

And what’s the marketing slogan? “Same old product, brand new gimmick”? Might as well make a video for a waffle iron with a phone attached and try to sell that.

I wish I was the boss at BGH so I could tell everyone how stupid they are. I sincerely hope consumers are not swayed by this.

For fucks sake, I just want a microwave that makes NO NOISE so it doesn’t wake everyone in the house up.

I guess I could put an mp3 of nothing in there, but seriously, BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP and if I don’t open the door it goes off again in a minute BEEP BEEP, STFU microwave, you don’t tell me what to do.

It’s nice to know I’m not alone on this. I couldn’t agree more!!! Why does a normal oven not make a noise when it is more likely that leaving something in there will burn and catch on fire?? That doesn’t mean ovens should make noise, it means there’s no reason for a microwave to beep. I can hear when you stop cooking you stupid thing!!! I’ve even spent an hour researching a way to turn the beep off. Couldn’t find an answer, please help!

I’m already playing music when I’m cooking – dumb idea in my opinion.

Insanely stupid idea, the solution to the problem that never existed.

The only good thing that I can see about this, would be the option to have Mr T saying something like “Foods ready Fool”

But no, in the bin with this nonsensical idea!
