Lunchtime Deal: Seagate Expansion 2TB Drive $88

Gizmodo AU

Hard drive prices are creeping upwards rather rapidly, so if you need storage, it’d be wise to buy now. Big W’s advertising a special on the Seagate 2TB external expansion drive for $88 until tomorrow. A few months ago that might have been unremarkable; now it’s quite cheap. [Big W]

At that price, I’d grab a few and gret rid of the case. The drive inside that thing is currently going for $162 from my local bulk computer store.. so ya.. very cheap. I’d just be wary that it may have been identified as a batch with a higher than normal fail rate or something similar.

I have to comment about this one. Its near impossible to pick one up due to stock shortages. Stock comes and go and you can’t price match with other retailers if BigW don’t have stock. Good luck finding one!

Not true. It makes no difference if the advertiser of the cheaper product has stock. It is still a valid price match.

For what it’s worth I don’t post deals to frustrate anybody, and always try to pick stuff that seems to still be in stock when written up — but I can’t control the stock quantities that external stores have!

Well BigW in the Brisbane CBD are out of stock… but the Office works isnt! Printed the bigW webpage that showed the $88 price, walked into Officeworks and bought 2 drive with a further 5% off.. so $83.60 per drive! Bargin!

Australia post has it for $99 if you can’t be bothered going around looking for a BigW with stock.

They are just hoarding them at the warehouse so they can up the price after the special ends.

I never bother when BigW has specials like this as they never has enough stock for it to be a genuine special. Service is terrible too.

Great deal but none of the stores have stock. Bait advertising.

At first I thought to myself, “Damn, that’s a great deal” but then I saw it was from Seagate. Pass. Of all the drives I’ve ever had, it’s the ones from Seagate that have failed.

I bought a WD 2 TB hard drive for 99$ not that long ago. I should have stocked up then.
