Lunchtime Deal: Refurb Kindle Keyboard $99

Gizmodo AU

Amazon’s put up refurbished Kindles on its site from time to time, and it would appear that Big W has invested heavily, given that it’s offering up refurb Kindle Keyboard models for $99 outright for online purchase. The Kindle’s still the eBook reader to beat, and this is a solid $60 saving. [Big W via TopBargains]

It should be noted that the “Kindle Keyboard” is the “Kindle 3″. It’s clear to see why you would call the Kindle 3 the Kindle with the keyboard but it does get a bit confusing for people who already owned the Kindle 3 or people looking to buy the best, non-touch Kindle..

For example, when I went to find out if there was a new patch available, suddenly people were talking about the Kindle Keyboard and no more mention of the Kindle 3.. and it took a while to realise that it was actually the Kindle 3 with a new name by Amazon.

I scored one for that price from the excess stock Dick Smith was selling off through Grays Online auction house a few weeks ago. It craps all over my Kobo! It’s just a shame artificial divides still exist in publishing so that not everything is available for us to buy yet.

Not worth it – the new Kindle WiFi is $135 delivered and is a better user experience. Having said that I just dropped $120 for a replacement screen for my (broken) Kindle Keyboard 3G model, but that’s because there is no other 3G model available for Australians.

The Kindle 2011 is inferior to this, with less specs in almost every department and no hard page-turning buttons.

The Kindle Touch is on a par or superior to this, but does not ship internationally.
