Julian Assange Loses Extradition Appeal

Loose-lipped, silver-haired lothario Julian Assange has lost his appeal to stay in the UK, and will be extradited to Sweden to face trial over alleged rape and sexual molestation charges.

Assange’s most recent legal case saw him trying to overturn the European arrest warrant that was issued for him over the Swedish sex claims, but two high court judges have today ruled the warrant should stand and that Assange is therefore legally obliged to return to Sweden over the next few weeks.

It’s not the end of all hope for Assange to remain in the UK, though — there still may be a slim chance of an appeal to the Supreme Court if lawyers believe the case is of “legal significance.”

In the spirit of openness Assange would no doubt approve of, the full ruling is available online here. [AP via The Register via Gizmodo UK]

I hope they lock this loser up. Wikileaks is a complete joke, all they do is post stuff anyone who wanted to could get hold of through freedom of information acts in various countries and Assange is nothing but a media whore. I heard him carrying on the other day about his “brand value” and telling everyone how recognisable he was and all the rest of it. What a sad, little tosser.

You’re ignorant in the extreme. While it’s arguable that Assange is an attention hog, you’re a fool if you think Wikileaks doesn’t provide a service that’s increasingly important in the media-savvy world. They’ve brought to light plenty of scandals and human rights abuses by institutions that would have otherwise, brushed them under the carpet.

“all they do is post stuff anyone who wanted to could get hold of through freedom of information acts in various countries”

Really? You think ANYONE could have just asked the US military for footage of the machine-gunner laughing while he mowed down civilians? And the military have willingly given it up? Or that any Chinese citizen could have just walked to the PRC government and demand they provide intel about state-sponsored online espionage?

Wikileaks is a necessary evil because of increasingly limited transparency between individuals and institutions, who are not being held accountable for their actions. As for the obviously trumped-up rape charges? Maybe the testimonies of these women would have more credibility if they hadn’t flip-flopped more than once about whether he ‘raped’ them or not (even by the loose definition of rape by Swedish law).

Your increasingly closed-minded, self-righteous and condescending posts are becoming downright unpleasant to read MotorMouth. I’m beginning to wonder if you’re just deliberately trolling, or if you’re that out of touch.

Wow, if I was the victim of an actual, real rape, I just know I’d feel wonderful about them calling not wearing a condom ‘rape’. Because they’re so comparable.

Assault is assault, and if he did something that’s illegal in that country, fine. But calling it rape. What an insult to real victims. Neither of these women were held down while someone forcibly had sex with them against their will.

    What a joke.

I believe your article is wrong, Assange is NOT being sent to Sweden to face trial, that was in fact one of his defences against extradition. A person has to be charged with something before they can face trial, Assange has not been charged, he is wanted for questioning.

Please check these facts and your article.
