This thing looks epic… and features what appears to be cameos from some well-known Grand Theft Auto games.
Rockstar’s good at many things, and producing hype is one of them. I’m pumped for GTA V after watching that trailer, even though — as Mark over at Kotaku, who more or less stayed up all night waiting for it notes — it’s not even really clear who you’ll be playing as.
There seems to be a few well-known faces in there, from GTA IV‘s Roman Bellic to what may be San Andreas’ Carl Johnson fleeing from the cops. As for the protagonist, Vice City’s Tommy Vercetti seems a likely choice, but i’m going to throw out a dark horse contender — could that be GTA II‘s Tony Cipriani? [Kotaku]

Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 8:23 AMLooks awesome. It seems like one of the main themes are the contrast between the rich and the poor in the USA. But of course I cant wait to land a private jet on a main street then run out and gun down everything in sight lol

Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 8:25 AMBellic? I thought he died in the canon story; if you follow The Ballad of Gay Tony, the only way for Luis to intercept Dimitri and Bulgarin’s drug deal is for Niko to have gone ahead with the deal (if he chooses revenge the drug deal never happens as the drugs stay on the ship).

Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 8:47 AMpeople actually finished gta4? i usually get to a point where i get bored of driving around and give up the game… usually 3/4 through any gta game

Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 8:59 AMHint: go back and take advantage of taxis and Roman’s car service. Also if you ever need a car steal a Turismo from the top floor of the shop around the corner from the penthouse. The driving in missions can be tedious, but at least Rockstar was good enough to fill it with amusing banter.

Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 9:07 AMYeah, IV is easily the most overrated game in history.
V needs to do a lot to redeem itself.

Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 9:17 AMYeah people were seduced by how good GTA IV was looks-wise but San Andreas had it covered in gameplay and overall enjoyability

Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 9:23 AMWell I admit to being a fanboy in this case, but that doesn’t seem to be near as exciting as the GTA 4 Trailer was, all it seems to be doing is highlighting the new lighting effects.
Looks like they have brought the planes back again. That was the biggest dissapointment of #4 – Only helicopters. We all know that flying a helicopter isn’t near as much fun as flying a Mirage.

Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 10:46 AMThat did nothing for me, like most commenters, didnt finish IV as it got tedious and boring, this looks like more of the same.
Something that did move me however was Saints Row The Third

Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 10:53 AMI really hope they take things back to what mattered most. This is not Uncharted.. this is GTA.. Having a story is fine for moving the character through the unlocking of different parts of the environment and for creating mission structure.. but it should not be so focused on the story that the great things about the GTA series are left in the gutter.. feeling almost like an afterthought in IV.
All the side-mission and side-amusements.. the real satisfaction that comes from owning all the nudie bars in town, stealing cars for profit and unlocks and general feeling of a living city that actually changes based on what you do in it.
The story in IV was good, not my cup of tea but I acknowledge that the story was very well written, it’s just that it not only took centre stage but took up all the room on that stage and didn’t allow for much else.
That’s just my perception of IV of course.. and I am hoping that they get V “right”.

Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 10:58 AMDoesn’t matter how epic these games look, there’s always a few clowns who’ll complain, right? GTA 4 was (and still is) a fantastic game. The 5th one will be wicked-awesome too! If you thought GTA 4 was “overrated” or “stale”, then the fault is with you, not the game! I, for one, appreciate your work, Rockstar and implore you to continue it, in spite of these nay-saying arseclowns!!! :)

Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 11:20 AMWow, how incredibly boring. I enjoyed 4 but this needed to be bigger and better… it doesn’t appear to really offer anything new. Bad guy trying to turn good, gets caught up in bad shit again? Yeah done that. A teaser is meant to do exactly that – tease the prospective buyer, pull them in, make them want more. I certainly feel teased, but not in a good way.
I’m pretty glad I ordered Saints Row: The Third. I hope Volition show Rockstar how it’s done.

Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 12:07 PMYou people that dont like it can die… this game will be epic.. I’ve played everyone since the first!
However Saints Row is looking pretty awesome!

Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 1:42 PMApparently Rockstar said that the GTA universe this generation is different from the GTA universe in the PS2-era (this is what I read so I am uncertain if true) which means that previous GTA characters will not be appearing.

Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 3:42 PMCan’t wait, always enjoyed GTA. Looks pretty god damn awesome.
