Firefox 8 Available For FTP Download

Gizmodo AU

If you’re really hyper-keen to get Firefox 8 up and running, it’s now available from Mozilla. Not via automatic update, however — that’ll happen tomorrow. But if for some reason you just plain can’t wait, it’s available from Mozilla’s FTP server right now. [Mozilla]

Is anything major actually changing, or is the layout just being tweaked again?

I grabed it earlyer today when I read it here. It dose not seem as CPU heavy as the last 2 releases. RAM wise it still seems to eat a bit.

My firefox automatically updated to 8.0 last week. All you have to do is sign up to the beta channel to get them early.

Can anyone tell me why they started this fast version release cycle?

I don’t have a problem with it, just a little perplexed.

Around 4. It was because their old system of 6 – 12 months or whatever they were on was seeing them fall behind what has become an increasingly competitive market.

The good thing about full version updates is that they are easy enough to ignore. It’s the little incremental ones that get done automatically that annoy me.

Sorry, but that almost certainly means you’re using crap (unofficial) add-ons.
The Add-ons are also the biggest cause of instabilities in the first place.
