The BBC’s released the trailer and title for this year’s Christmas special, and it’s reported we won’t have to wait too long to see it here in Australia, either. Also, that costume that the BBC’s auctioning off? Matt Smith is… ahem… not wearing it. If you know what I mean.
The Christmas special will be titled “The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe” — a truly subtle effort on the part of Steven Moffat there, and will be broadcast in the UK on Christmas day.
Meanwhile, for the Children In Need Telethon, Matt Smith recorded a brief snippet promoting the auction of the Doctor’s outfit and its logical conclusion. If you’re buying the Doctor’s clothes, what exactly is he wearing?
As for local (legal) playback? The Doctor Who News Page reports that the ABC will show it on Boxing Day, which is reasonable — once you take the time difference into account, that’s only about twelve hours behind the UK.

Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 10:24 AMIn this day and age that we still have to wait for overseas shows to get on Aussie TV is a joke. Free view has failed because are networks have no idea about good programming. I know where I’ll be getting this from and it won’t be waiting to watch it on the ABC.

Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 10:40 AMThe ‘wait’ in this case is about twelve hours — and it’s not exactly the kind of program that’ll do well if broadcast at 6am, which would be (more or less) “live” with the UK. That speaks more to impatience than a “joke” to me….

Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 11:02 AMI for one will be happy to wait the ‘long’ period of 12 hours because I’m not really going to be up at 6am on Boxing Day

Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 2:57 PMI don’t know about that. I’ll be watching it within about half an hour of it finishing airing in the UK.

Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 6:14 PMI think what Dan means, is that we generally have to wait much longer for programs to come in from overseas. While the US and UK got Dr Who S6 episodes within hours of each other, we had to wait 2 weeks for them to come onto our screens.
12 hours isn’t that long, but having to wait 2 weeks for a program that US/UK audiences get to watch on the day is a bit of a joke.

Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 10:52 AMI’m very happy to see ABC showing this on Boxing Day, as they did last year… I mean, what are they supposed to do, run it a few hours after UK TV airs and thus at a very strange time for Aussies with zip audience but the super-diehards? Putting it on just 12 or so hours afterwards, on the evening of Boxing Day, is a great move!

Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 11:18 AMAs I am so impatient, I shall be watching this in the UK. I am planning to travel across the space time continuum in an airship just to watch doctor who.
Oh, and also visit family… but that is secondary at the moment.

Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 2:23 PMThing is, it won’t be shown in HD unless they show it on the news channel (lulz). Therefore… torrent.
