The WISPR Vaporiser Looks Like A Retro Transistor Radio

There’s an endless list of reasons why you should probably just quit smoking. But quitting isn’t easy, so the WISPR promises to deliver everything you love about cigarettes, with a bit less of the stuff that could be killing you.

Thanks to design firms Thing Tank and Sequitur Creative, IOLITE’s WISPR vaporiser looks like a retro-riffic transistor radio from yesteryear. But inside it packs a butane burner and a compartment for holding pipe tobacoo, or other herbs, as their website suggests.

Once filled with both fuel and your leaves of choice, you light the WISPR and wait for it to heat up to 190 degrees Celsius. At that temperature the tobacco is heated instead of burned, producing a vapor that’s inhaled through a pop-up straw. Still not healthy but also less unhealthy, as the process reduces the amount of toxins you’re taking in. Available in five very appealing colours for about $US280.

Oh dear.. you people are really way behind on the news in this area aren’t you?? Talk about sending a poor message on top.

Please stop reporting such rubbish and promoting “smoking”. Whether it is super heating it or not, it is still combustion of a substance. In fact the most harmful parts of cigarettes and tobacco are the additives that the tobacco companies add, not to mention the actual microscopic particles of smoke, carbon monoxide and other cancer causing nitrosamines.

Very, very poor form linking to an article like this.

Instead of promoting much safer alternatives that do NOT contain the above listed harmful things, you ridicule the idea and those who choose to use those same much safer alternatives:

For example this article you ran in May:
    http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2011/05/my-e-cigarette-is-vibrating-there-must-be-a-failed-smoker-nearby/

I’ve personally been using e-Cigarettes for over 2 years; I love smoking.. it’s one of the things I do to feel comfortable, to relieve stress at th end of the day. However, now I can do so without ANY combustion tobacco. No smoke at all. And for a lot less than this device.

You people need to stop and use your brains before posting every tiny bit of tech that comes along.

Meh.. I could go on.. but I have gone on long enough already.

    @light487

Firstly, its actually a new product, so its not really old news. Plus Gizmodo is a gadget guide website, what do you expect them to write?

Secondly, I know someone who has one of these devices, and he vouches for it 100%, in fact it has helped him give up smoking.

As far as the health benefits…there’s been numerous studies done that show vaporizers are healthy, do a Google search and be enlightened.

Anything you actually put tobacco in and burn can’t be as good as something you’re not putting tobacco in.

The reason I got so ill-tempered was that the reporting here is rather slanted, just like so many other publications..

      No I shouldn’t be surprised I guess, you’re right.

Who smokes tobacco in a ‘herb’ vaporizer? It’s not even for tobacco.
        You guys have no idea.
