The iPod Is 10 Today

Gizmodo AU

Written off at its inception, Apple’s iconic media player turns 10 today. Despite iOS devices taking more and more attention these days, Apple’s still churning out the iPod classic a decade after it was unveiled.

Macworld has a nice piece up regarding the genesis of the iPod. While I wouldn’t buy one today — and I’m frankly a little surprised at the fact that Apple’s kept it on as a product line — there’s no doubting its role in the rise of Apple over the past 10 years. Also, I’ve got to say; that’s still a nice-looking media player. [Macworld]

        It’s not comicsans, it’s Markerfelt.

        It’s ok in small doses.

Yes, it is Marker Felt. That wonderful font that is basically Comic Sans, but die-hard Apple fans like to say ‘it’s different’.

It’s not okay in small doses.

I never really got the whole iPod thing. It was one step up from the radio for me, not a replacement for my CD collection (itself a replacement for my record collection). It wasn’t until I checked out Zune HD that I saw some potential but now that MS has killed that off, I’m probably going to have to go back to my CDs when my current device karks it, unless someone can come up with something comparable.

P.S. Comic Sans is the worst font in the history of typography. It wouldn’t surprise me if that is the reason I never liked iPod.

I am currently on my 3rd iPod, the current gen classic. I first replaced my ipod photo to upgrade, then bought the classic when my video was stolen last year. I’ll never get a touch or any of the others, the classic design IS ipod. I’ll be pissed if they get rid of it.
