Apple’s demos of the new iPhone 4S’ Siri smart assistant are very impressive, but they’re just controlled demos. Stuff.tv got their hands on an iPhone 4S and played quite a bit with in a public place. It’s still very impressive.
It looks like they were playing with it at the Apple Store in Camden Town, with quite a bit of noise in the background. Not train station level noise, but noisy enough. It worked great all the time. The people tone is pretty natural.
But the question is still the same: would you be like Captain Kirk or Picard and bark orders to your phone in public? [Stuff.tv]

Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 9:39 AMGreat demo of Siri. However what would have been 100 times better is if you ran this same demo with an Android phone (say SGS2) that has Google Actions installed on it to compare. Or is comparing with the iPhone competitors something Apple has paid you not to do?

Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 11:21 AMAsh, judging by the stuff.tv branding ALL OVER that video, I’d hazard a guess that Gizmodo didn’t make it themselves…..
I do love how antsy you fanboys get when you think there’s a misjustice in the world, though.

Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 12:08 PMI don’t like the iPhones at all. The technology is average and software is too simple, though thats whats made it popular. I just hate that people think they’re the only good phone out there. They’ve clearly stolen this feature from android, but I have to admit, it seems to work REALLY well

Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 4:55 PMIt does look impressive but I don’t like having to touch the microphone icon all the time. If your going to be touching icons on the screen the whole time surely you may as well skip the voice recognition and do it the old fashioned way.

Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 6:22 PMThere isn’t an Apple store in Camden Town. So you must have copied that from the other websites saying Camden Town without bothering to check.

Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 6:33 PMI would like to see how quick it is over a MOBILE data connection, and not over WiFi like it would be most of the time!!
Or is that not a feature :P
I bet it won’t be as quick..

Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 1:38 AMI wouldn’t imagine it sending tons of data back to the servers. Servers would then do the processing. Most large data received would be from the pictures it receives from servers. The voice playback would simply be a playback combination of audio words already stored in the phone.

I’m not a fan or customer of Apple, but Siri looks pretty dang good.
