Humour’s a very subjective thing, obviously. Take, for example, these two iPhone 4S announcement parody videos. I think one of them’s gut-bustingly funny, while the other just draws a simple yawn out of me.
The Banned iPhone 4S video? Even though I don’t entirely agree with it, to borrow an Apple phrase,
it’s Genius. The Siri-ously video? Must try harder. What’s your opinion?

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 9:59 AMAs an apple lover…. Im totally upset by both ads! jk!
They are great and do point out some of crap apple spin. But still, I have never had a single problem with any apple product I have owned which I cant say for other tech I own.
As SJ once said, Apple may not be the first to the party, but when we do it we do it right… something that I really do concur with.

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 10:13 AMThe guys that did the first one are fantastic. They’ve done quite a few, they’re all really clever.
That being said, the second one comes across as being kind of bitter about the whole thing
EckyThump
Monday, October 10, 2011 at 10:18 AMI thought the first one would’ve been funnier without the booze, and the second was a bit too vindictive! But both are perfectly relevant! Now how many Fanboys bought this thing cos they just couldn’t stop themselves! #]

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 10:47 AMYep apple abusing their power of innovation and moving to the money hording side of business.. even though they have a stack of cash in the bank.. now we go back to apple when jobs was fired.. so apple will soon start to sink? yes no?…

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 11:11 AM“Abusing their power of innovation”
Quote of the week, though I don’t have the foggiest idea what it’s meant to mean.
Matthew Rodgers
Monday, October 10, 2011 at 8:00 PMit means using their ability as a market leader to hire the best minds in the business to turn out the most polished (note very carefully haters that i said neither best, nor technologically advanced nor any other thing you continuously accuse apple of saying) devices on the market that are perfectly tuned to the needs and wants of the masses rather than aiming their product at the one percent of consumers who care not about usability but rather about cramming the most half baked unfinished features into a chunky, poorly designed and completed forgotten about after 2 weeks device

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 10:23 AMCall me insane, but I liked the bite of the second one over the first.

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 10:58 AMI agree. The first one is a classic and the second one is just weak.
i’m looking forward to seeing how siri works with an aussie accent. if it works half as good as the demos, it’ll be an awesome thing i’d use often, especially when i’m driving. if not, it’ll be just another vlingo. you’ll use it once cos it’s cool to see it work and then never use it again. I have a feeling there’s going to be a lot of comments “iphone wankers talking to their phones” until 6 months later, android can do the same thing.

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 11:20 AMDid u even watch the vid before commenting? http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=FUEG7kQegSA#t=79s
BTW, Siri has been available as an app for a while. It didn’t take the world by storm. People weren’t raving about it. Now that the 4S is released and it’s the only feature worth mentioning Apple fans think it’s the most amazing thing ever. Try to have perspective. It’s marketing.
Also, it worked on the 3GS, but now magically only works on the 4S. If you want a 4S now because it’s the only phone “powerful enough” (rolls eyes) to perform a function that no one cared about before, you really should be assessing how easily you seem to be manipulated by Apple.
Siri just reminds me of a pitch-shifted version of this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL7yD-0pqZg

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 12:28 PMyou realise you just pointed me to the clip showing a command based speech recognition on the Android phone ?? That’s been around for years and largely unloved. I’ve not seen anything like what I saw in the live demo for siri. Siri is a tech apple bought. apple aren’t claiming they invented it. they are just integrated pretty deep into their os. it’s pretty crazy tech when you get into natural language side of things and conversational aspects. I’ve not seen anything that builds context uses things like state and location like this. if you have, i’d genuinely love to see a demo video. the best alternative i’ve seen is vlingo and it’s not very good, is it?

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 12:35 PMlike this isn’t impressive ??

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 2:21 PMIt seems like some Apple staff is there to guide them which commands Siri can understand. Lets see how it performs without supervision.
Andrew
Monday, October 10, 2011 at 4:24 PMOh man, so much extraneous speech. Siri really needs to say less whilst fetching and displaying info. Simple alert tones would suffice if you need to read the screen anyway… and doesn’t that half defeat the point?
“I am just saying extraneous preformatted words to disguise that it actually takes a while to fetch info, this will never, ever get annoying”

Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 12:26 AMIf it’s anything like TomTom’s Via series (as much as I love the satnavs themselves otherwise), the voice control is pathetic. My Desire handled things ok, but I really can’t be stuffed telling the bus what I’m doing after work.

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 10:58 AMThey’re both awesome!

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 11:41 AMNeither of them is funny.

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 11:58 AMThe other major smartphones probably are better specs but at the end of the day while we are all sitting here squabbling about who can and can’t change their micro SD card, Apple is sitting back watching the new best ever iPhone sales figures fly by and count there latest billions of dollars. I think it’s great business. Sell an mostly old, cheap to build phone for more money, ad and S and sit back for the next 12 months and report sales figures of billions instead of millions like the rest.
Ozoneocean
Monday, October 10, 2011 at 6:12 PMThe biggest reasons for the current sales:
1. They expanded to new networks right off the bat this time.
2. All the people who had iphone 3gs on 2 year on two year contracts or who had them but just held off upgrading to the 4 because of the bad press are now all upgrading to the new handset.

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 12:57 PMAnother overpriced Apple product outdated on release. Fail.

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 2:15 PMWhat are you talking about? The first video isn’t funny at all. They’re just acting drunk and swearing… The second one is intelligent.

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 3:54 PM+ 1. The first one is lame.
Jay
Monday, October 10, 2011 at 4:47 PMAgreed, first one had a concept or two that could of been entertaining, like the employees getting drunk off their power, but just dragged on and offered nothing new.
The second one is far wittier.
Ed
Monday, October 10, 2011 at 4:23 PMI like the first one. The concept that everyone at Apple is just an alcoholic riding the coat tails of their previous success is hilarious.
Scott Barnes (@MossyBlog)
Monday, October 10, 2011 at 5:04 PMCould be worse… could be a #wp7
Michael
Monday, October 10, 2011 at 5:58 PMI liked the bit where they put in a snippet of “Check My Fresh” by the Thundamentals. That was a nice touch.
I’ll still buy that phone anyway, as it stands. Fuck it – the last Steve Jobs iPhone? Yes please.
Ozoneocean
Monday, October 10, 2011 at 6:08 PMThe second one is better, it’s meaner and nastier, but also more cutting and funny.
The first one isn’t bad, and the “drunken” gimmick is funny and a good comment on the “getting lost in bars” thing, but it’s waaay too soft.
Good humour needs a little bite, not enough to draw blood, but not gummy and toothless either.

Monday, October 10, 2011 at 9:51 PMIn other words “I liked the second one better because it payed out on Apple more”.
John
Monday, October 10, 2011 at 6:55 PMFunny videos yes, but the commentary afterwards by fanboys of APPLE, Android and whatever else is the most laughable. My fave is the reasoning for why Apple are selling heaps of phones. Here is the one and only reason. IT IS A GREAT PHONE!
Ozoneocean
Monday, October 10, 2011 at 7:15 PMThat’s not a reason- Sure, they are good phones, but so are all the competition as well.
And that’s why we look t the other aspects :)
FSM
Monday, October 10, 2011 at 7:39 PMOkay, I know Apple has a hand at least in the A5, but claiming they redesigned the camera? I would think they just bought a camera that another company designed right?….right?
That’s like Nokia going, our phones have the best camera’s, we are the best camera/lens designers….and Carl Zeiss would be like…WTF!?
Tarik
Monday, October 10, 2011 at 8:09 PMYeh i agree the first one would have been much better without the alcohol. I dont even get why they have it there.
The second is a little bitchy but atleast it deals with the actual problem.

Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 3:33 AMthis whole Siri crap seems remarkably similar to all the hype surround the much touted voice control of the 3GS, perhaps a more polished solution but useless none the less
