Holy Mother Of God The Canon 1D X Is Fast

We already know the Canon 1D X is going to be the most epic DSLR ever — and fast as hell. But reading that is nothing compared to seeing the machine gun continuous shooting mode in action. Pew.

Shown here at a demo event, the $US6800 1D X’s 14 FPS mode blasts full 18MP JPEGs with hell’s fury. That’s 112,000,000 pixels per second. And if you drop it down to 12fps, you can crank shots in RAW. The engineering allowing the thing to operate that quickly — and accurately — is stunning. [PetaPixel]

Owning one of these would mean needing to own a storage farm to support all those RAW files. Storage of past shots will be in the terabytes in no time at all

Got to use my sister’s 5D the other night, and although it’s not something I’d use every day it is one sweet machine. Canon’s 1D has always (AFAIK) been *the* flagship DSLR, and this camera looks to continue in that vein.

Anyone (besides people with too much money and not enough sense) who owns such a beast will be some kind of pro with an appropriate storage and workflow infrastructure to back them up, as it’d be their livelihood. This isn’t something you carry around your neck on a holiday in Easter Island!

When you get suckered in by the lure of Photography as a hobby, you will do alot of crazy things.

I currently have a 5DMKII and a 7D, this will be a perfect replacement for both.

Plus it really isn’t that heavy when you are an enthusiast.

    Wow, sounds like a taser!

I’ll probably never get to own one, but it’s great to see the tech moving forward so fast. Now hopefully this will pull down the price of the current 5D!
