I’m super excited for iCloud but I’m still wondering what the hell I’m going to do with my two separate Apple ID accounts: my original one, which I made to buy stuff on iTunes — and still use to buy apps — and then the MobileMe account that Apple forced you to make as a separate Apple ID.
I just want it all to work together, dammit, especially since I paid Apple money for all this stuff before they decided to make it free. One account, all my info, all my apps. Just give us a heads up. I think my $119 a year bought that much, since sometimes I feel like it didn’t buy that much else.

Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 8:44 AMHmmm i still cant see what the problem is, AppleID still AppleID and MobileMe account become iCloud Account. In settings under Store you still enter your AppleID and choose to turn on sync apps and ibooks and songs. And under icloud settings you enter name@me.com account and and can choose to turn on or off email, contacts, calendar, photostream, find my phone etc

Friday, October 14, 2011 at 4:11 PMUnfortunately it is not that simple. Say you want to use iTunes in the cloud (or apps) which is a really awesome feature. His purchases are registered on his apple ID and therefore won’t function via iCloud. It sucks.

Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 9:13 AMI don’t know if this is because I signed up when it was .mac but I’m sure I had my apple ID before I signed up for the .mac service and wasn’t forced to choose a new username. My iTunes account and mobile me accounts are both one and the same.

Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 10:00 AMNot sure if this helps, but if you go to https://appleid.apple.com/en_AU click manage my account, log in with you Apple ID, add you @me and any other email accounts to the alternate addresses you should be right… Have a play with it and see how you go. But I have always logged into itunes with an @mac and @me. Both worked and both took me to the one account (but I am aware they were/are the same thing).
I might go add an @gmail and see how I go

Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 11:42 AMThis isn’t giving me any love. Still says the email is associated with another AppleID account.

Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 10:18 AMI actually spoke to apple support this morning about this same issue and they said exactly what huu said above, that you can use your original ID for purchases and just use the @me address for iCloud. I completely agree that its stupid we cant merge them, especially since I dont even have any itunes purchases on the @me account.
huu
Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 11:08 AMIt might seem convenient to merge them but if you think about it this way your family can use all your apps (you pay for once for 10 device) and still have their own icloud (free) email, contacts etc much better dont you think?
Becca
Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 1:08 AM@i2: I tried that this morning. I have an @me account that I was forced to create with MobileMe, and an @gmail account which is my Apple ID. Unfortunately, BOTH accounts are flagged as Apple IDs. And, if you add either address to the other ID, you get an error saying it’s a verified email address for another Apple ID.
To actually do the juggling around, you may need a 3rd email address…

Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 11:38 AMI’m in an identical situation since moving my MobileMe account to iCloud this morning. Can’t say I really want to be managing two AppleIDs.

Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 3:37 AMIt is frustrating the we cannot merge our iTunes purchase account with the user@me.com for iCloud, Apple should style up and give users that option, they forgot people get married and change names thus wanting a new account to reflect their family name.

Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 3:37 PMThe problem lies in that some of use us an AppleID that is just a name, not an email address. That’s what I use for iTunes, that’s what I’ve been using for lots of things.
Well, I *ALSO* happen to have the same name as a MobileMe account. (.Mac, iTools, etc.)
Well, I want to use iCloud. I want to use the AppleID that my iTunes is connected to. To be honest, I never even noticed that they were separate. They use the same name (before the @ for MobileMe) and have the same password.
But, now, all AppleIDs have to be a full email address in order to be used with iCloud. Some of us would like to just use the opportunity to MERGE our non-email-address AppleID with our MobileMe address.
But we can’t.
Apple’s suggestion? Use your MobileMe address for the general “iCloud” services, and use your iTunes-linked AppleID for iTunes services, including “iTunes in the Cloud”… Except I have to move my AppleID to be an email address… And I can’t use my @me.com address….
And when I log in during the iOS5 iCloud setup with my @me.com address, it links EVERYTHING to that, even the stuff that SHOULD be using my old iTunes-linked AppleID.
Even worse, when I upgraded my iPad to iOS 5, and ran through the setup, I turned on Automatic Downloads. Unfortunately, it was turned on for my @me.com account. All of my purchases are on my AppleID. I realized my mistake and tried to switch AppleIDs, but now I have to wait 90 days before I can turn it back on…

Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 8:56 PMI’m in exactly the same position, including the wait 90 days bit cos the forced me to use an I’d with email for my phone. What really sh1ts me is that people with a non email apple ID from years ago who also stumped up for MobileMe are their longest standing, most loyal customers!

Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 3:39 PMAnd now I discovered TRUE insanity…
I apparently had FaceTime enabled connected to my AppleID – but with my @me.com address linked to it. So I can’t use iMessages logging in with my full @me.com address – I have to use just the AppleID, even though I then have to use my @me.com address to have people find me.
What? That confuses ME!

Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 10:06 PMHaving the same problem here. The reasons why the double ID is a bad idea keep piling up. Now when I log into iCloud and want to try the new iWork functionality it directs me to iTunes to purchase the apps because, of course, they are linked to my iTunes Apple ID, not my MobileMe/iCloud ID.
Val
Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 10:36 PMAlso, now my iPad tries to buy new apps with the iCloud account. Do I have to log into iTunes on a different computer with my iTunes ID and “gift” the app to my iCloud account in order to be able to buy stuff? Great experience!

Friday, October 14, 2011 at 12:06 AMIce been waving my fist of fury at apple since the first day I signed up for mobile me and didn’t realize that it automatically created a new iD and didn’t mere it with the old. Fucking stupid apple. I’ve spent thousands with you, and faithful since os8!

Friday, October 14, 2011 at 2:48 AMMatt, I feel your pain buddy!
I, too, paid for the family account on MobileMe and have two ID’s.
I use “Find My iPhone” all the time to track my kids whereabouts.
Now I’m afraid that if I merge MobileMe into the new control panel I’ll lose that functionality because they’ll want me to use “Find My Friends” instead.
That will suck because the kids will be able to turn that off.
Now, of course, I’m faced with having to upgrade the MacBooks to Snow Leopard so that I can then upgrade them to Lion so that I can install iCloud!
My Win7 laptop requires NO upgrades to get iCloud. Go figure!
Mark
Friday, October 14, 2011 at 10:40 AMAnd this new “Find my Friends” won’t work either. I log in using my MobileMe ID (it will not allow me to use my iTunes ID as it adds “@me.com” to the end of it) and then when I invite anyone to follow, it comes up with an error message saying that my Apple ID has to be verified and takes me to a web page that will only allow me to change my password! My password works for everything else so why do I need to change it?

Friday, October 14, 2011 at 3:36 PMHave you guys migrated your mobileme accounts to iCloud FIRST? Specific portal for mobileme account holders: https://www.me.com/move/
This is the Apple.com sanctioned page with specific instructions on Apple IDs and iCloud where the above link came from: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4895
You move your MobileMe using: http://www.me.com/move first. Then when you turn on your iPhone, it will prompt you for the rest.
When you first downloaded iOS 5 and turned on your phones, it asked for your Apple ID, you were supposed to put in your MobileMe ids.. and the link elaborates and explains the workaround. It’s really no big deal.
Apple can’t merge it, because they never were running MobileMe. Mobile Me is run by a third party company, which is why you had to create a separate ID to begin with.

Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 6:52 AMI did do everything in the correct order. Everything has been working perfectly across three computers and an iPhone EXCEPT for ‘Find my Friends’ which allows me to login but not invite anyone or recognise any invites from others. It keeps telling me that I have to verify my ID and gives a webpage which contains nothing to do with verifying but allows you to change your password. I have deleted the app twice and downloaded and installed it again three times. Still the same problem.

Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 2:36 AMApple – It just ‘works’ . . .
Been having the same problem for quite some time with my apple ID I originally created to purchase tracks on iTunes then I got a @me email address a few years ago. I emailed apple support about it a while ago and they came back saying it was not possible to merge accounts.

Sunday, October 16, 2011 at 7:44 AMFor MobileMe users like my wife – why not just de-activate your MobileMe account if not using it for iTunes purchases?
If you have a copy of your mail, calendar, and contacts on a computer already, then just de-activate the MobileMe connection from both that AND your iPhone, then upgrade to iCloud using your iTunes id (yourname@gmail.com for example) and then let iCloud re-sync your mail, calendar, contacts AND all of your purchases, all together under 1 Apple ID!
Wouldn’t this work? I’m going to go ask the “geniuses” at an Apple Store. Any feedback much appreciated.

Monday, October 17, 2011 at 10:40 AMI find it rather ironic that the people most inconvenienced by the iCloud are those who invested so much money in MobileMe, and in my case, I have an iMac, MacBook, iPad and iPhone that are all now going to be messed up because of this. Really pays to be Mac loyal doesn’t it?… I just spent over 2 hours on the line with an Apple rep and got NOWHERE! They say they can’t merge ID’s because of copyright issues for iTunes/App Store… Wow… glad I spent THOUSANDS of dollars in apps/songs over the years to have it not work in the cloud. GRR.. anyone have any advice I’d be very open to hearing it..:( I tried to migrate my contacts and calendars to my ITunes ID in the cloud and it did not work.

Monday, October 17, 2011 at 10:43 AMSame problem here with the dual apple ID accounts and lack of merge.
I have more invested in the iTunes Apple ID account so, even though I have spent the money on the me.com Apple ID account, I am signing out and putting the me.com to pasture.
If one day Apple works this out, then I can merge and may get to be badged as a long time customer. This means I have to adjust calendar and email options on all devices, but it should be sorted in an hour.

Monday, October 17, 2011 at 3:13 PMI have a Macbook Pro, a couple of iPhones, & an iPad II All snced with Mobile Me. Since changing to ios5, my syncs are a disaster with more duplicates than you can imagine & I am REALLY upset because all my calendar apts are messed up because i had to sign in with my MM account as opposed to my itunes with all the correct info. I have NO CLUE where I am supposed to be & NO CLUE how to fix it!!! UGHHHH I was so excited for ios5 & icloud & now with two Apple IDs, I am all messed up!! Apple, please come to the rescue of your loyal customers and help us merge these accounts!!!

Monday, October 17, 2011 at 11:41 PMI can confirm that my idea of letting go of the MobileMe account, in other words letting it go to the pasture, worked.
This only worked for my wife because when she made her MobileMe account 1.5 years ago, I made SURE to tell her NOT to buy any apps or songs under the MobileMe account, instead using her original iTunes account of the last 6 years.
SO, if you have no songs or apps attached to your MobileMe account, then you can delete it from your Mac/iPhone/iPad, etc. and then just “upgrade” or “migrate” your iTunes account (i.e. yourname@gmail.com) to the iCloud and everything should sync up no problem!

Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 10:16 AMSIMPLE. go to ME.COM/MOVE
-apple created this site for this specific problem
then go to appleid.apple.com to change your APPLEID to your original mobile me email
Rachel
Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 10:19 AMMy bad, last sentence incorrect. You can’t make your mobile me email your apple id but you can still use me.com/move to merge mobile me and icloud.

Friday, January 20, 2012 at 2:00 PMSame problem here. Almost as bad of a flop as the mobile me roll out.

Monday, March 12, 2012 at 3:49 PMSame here in Canada but worse if possible – I am a writer and I needed my iWork programs to sync across my MacBook, iPhone and iPad – and they will only sync for some reason using my MobileMe account – which means I cannot sync my music – I had to reload all my CDs – I too spend time on the phone with Apple – and was told basically it can’t be done – I can either have my music in the cloud or my files I need to earn my living. They really screwed this one up. And to add insult to injury iCloud has been syncing my Pages files at a snail’s pace since Thursday ….. paint dries faster. I have started uploading everything to Box.net [which I was smart enough to get while they were offering 50gb of free space last Fall]. I wonder if Microsoft had some sleeper mole engineers, who were activated to screw up iCloud…..
