Rockplayer’s a solid video playback utility that handles most file types smoothly. If you’re struggling to play back a file, chances are that RockPlayer will allow you to watch it.
The paid version of Rockplayer isn’t available through the Android market, although you can buy directly from the software vendor, or make do with the free ad-supported version.
It’ll play back most of the common video formats, and didn’t even baulk when I asked it to play back Santa Claus Conquers The Martians as per the screenshot above. It’s probably worth giving it better fare to work with, however. [RockPlayer]

Friday, October 21, 2011 at 3:01 PMRockPlayer’s interface is horrible, and I personally think it’s software decoder is rubbish.
I’m a bit fan of MoboPlayer, much friendlier UI, and very customisable.
Unfortunately, MoboPlayer’s software decoder isn’t great either – but then, I haven’t found a video player that DOES do good a good job at software decoding. Having said that though, if you’re trying to play AVI’s encoded with X-viD, you have rocks in your head – it’s not hard to recode to a native format using Handbrake, saving an ass-load of space in the process.

Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 5:37 PMI dig Rockplayer, it streams and decodes all I need, but what’s with the giant “R” in the top left of the screen? Why do that to a man?
