4WD Imperial Crawler Hack Makes AT-AT ‘Off-Roadier’

Called the Imperial Crawler by designer Christopher Aleria, this interesting take on the AT-AT would have surely been immune to Luke’s harpoon technique.

The rig is remote controlled and about as off road as an AT-AT model with huge chunky wheels could hope to be. Word is Aleria’s been conscripted into the Imperial military and will be cloned accordingly for future builds.[Hobby Media via technabob]

Thats pretty damned awesome but surely rubber tyres wouldn’t have held up under blaster fire in the same way big armoured feet did

I always thought the AT ATs were just stupid, top heavy tall lanky things. I wondered as a kid why they wouldn’t just have tank tracks or giant tyres on them instead. Nicely done Christopher.

Tracks or wheels would give them much less mobility over rough terrain, logically :)
Flying would’ve made more sense than either of course, but Starwars was about looking cool and nothing looks cooler than giant walking robots.

Yeah, legs are actually far, far more “off-road” than wheels or even tracks. :)

But this does look extremely funky! What a fantastic hack!
