The remote Wi-Fi-hacking flying drone we covered the other day? Creepy. The concept of setting up a similar drone to follow you around on your mountain biking holiday? Excellent.
Basque MTB reports on the adventures of Alistair Roberts, a keen mountain biker holidaying in the Basque. So what, you might think, but Alistair thought to pack an FPV plane with mounted GoPro camera on board, allowing him to record his mountain biking adventures. I’ll tell you what — in terms of holiday memories, it certainly puts my shoebox full of peeling polaroids under my bed to shame. [Basque MTB via Engadget]

Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 1:40 PMThe first sentence of this article made me think of something so very much cooler then this really pretty pedestrian usage…
-If you really COULD have a drone that would follow you about everywhere instead of a remote controlled aeroplane with a camera, now that would be cool and so useful! If it could flay all day autonomously, keeping near you at all times, you could use it to scout your surroundings, use it as a relay aerial to increase the range for your mobile devices… It’d be an excellent emergency device- programmed to got to a certain location and let off a beckon or emergency message for you if needed etc.
You could charge it up via solar a bike generator, or something like that.
A personal drone really would be a good idea.

… except for that really godawful music they put in the video.

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 10:00 AMWhat it needs is to have the camera follow your head movements..turn your head to the left with the FPV glasses on and the camera turns left, also a bit of HUD data in the glasses view..weight in the drone may start to be a problem though..
