The Nike Air Mag Is Selling For About $US6000 A Pair

The Nike Air Mag, a shoe I dreamt of wearing as a kid and can only dream of buying today, are being auctioned off for the search for a cure for Parkinson’s Disease. They’re selling for $US6142 a pair.

According to Darren Rovell of CNBC, the first 150 pairs have averaged $US6142 per pair for a total of $US921,290. That’s beyond expensive, which is unfortunate for sneakerheads, but great for humanity because all the proceeds are going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Sergey Brin, Google co-founder, will also match the donations up to $US50 million.

Checking at current listings now though, it looks like the price of the Air Mag may have dipped a little bit to $US4000 a pair. That’s still more money than I could ever afford for a pair of shoes (though that doesn’t mean I didn’t think about bidding on a pair for a good two hours), I expect the price to dip a little more and then spike up when the auction is in its stretch run. If it ever gets to below a $US1000 though… [Nikemag.eBay.com via @DarrenRovell]
