The Little Big Disk straps together two HDDs in a RAID array (0 for extra speed, or 1 for extra data safety). All this is tucked into a light, tough-ish aluminium case. If you want to totally max out that 10Gb/s Thunderbolt channel, you’ll be able to chain together multiple Little Big Disks, or slap on any other Thunderbolt peripheral to tap the rest of the bandwidth juice. You can pick up a 1TB 5400rpm model for $US500, or 2TB 7200rpm for $US500. Even more exciting is a 500GB SSD model next month — then we’ll hit 800MB/s instead of just 190MB/s for HDDs. And that’s when Thunderbolt drives really get exciting. [LaCie]

Something about those prices sounds hinky to me? Besides, I can’t use it on my PC anyway! #]

Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 11:30 AMWhy in holy hell does it cost that much? 1TB 7200rpm drive = 50-60 bucks RETAIL. Meaning the enclosure is setting you back a hefty $419.95 just by itself. WHAT THE FUCK.
