Telstra Tempts Wholesalers With Its Next G Network

Gizmodo AU

Five years on, Telstra’s defrosted to the idea of wholesaling its 3G service to the likes of Pacnet, Dodo and Internode. According to The Australian, proceedings could kick into action as early as next year.

The article doesn’t go into details — Telstra unsurprisingly reluctant to bare its soul — but it does mention that Telstra’s speedy 3G network is quite the money printer, making up the lion’s share of the $8.1 billion in polymer notes its mobile business has delivered so far this year.

The Oz has a Telstra representative on the record stating that wholesaling its Next G network had always been a possibility, but only at such at time it was “commercially viable”. The slice of the pie offered would also be, at the very least, as good as what other providers currently deliver.

    Bring on the LTE.

Wouldn’t mind if they license it.

Yup, makes sense. As they roll out LTE and sign over their premuim customers, the 3G network becomes second tier and desaturated. Might as well offload some of the unused capacity for profit.

No do not licence it will degrade the network allowing more companies to access it… telstra has just been super aggressive to reduce prices to entice more customers…

This is an awful idea. The network’s performance has already gone down hill in the past year because of Telstra’s lower priced plans. Look at what has happened to Optus’ network – it’s piss weak because they wholesale the hell out of it. Next G should remain Telstra-only. :(

    Do it telstra

Do it telstra! We all need the greatest and fastest network with more coverage than anyone else rented out so we can have better prices! Telstra’s prices suck and this means regional Australians will have access to a cheaper service while still using a reliable network- optus is the second best network out there so i hardly think it will make much diff, and if your a city folk USE the other carriers! There’s many cheaper networks out there for ya! save telstra for the country people!

Greatest and Fastest! wow you must not have ever used any other networks.
I have never seen the Next-G network go faster than about 2mbit and that’s with the Ultimate modem!
My Dodo/Optus wireless 90% of the time is more reliable and faster.
Do what you want Telstra, you are only selling more crap to more sheeple.

Haha 2mbit? That’s a joke right? because I get 20 average in my Brisbane office. You can’t put down the Telstra network because fortunately/unfortunately it’s reputation is fact based. It is the best there is.

I experience Telstra 2Mbps too, but it’s far better than Optus Vodafone 3G. With my Optus and Vodafone 3G sim, loading a heavy web page or watching youtube on my phone is a problem. With Telstra NextG, it’s a breeze. I currently use all three and that’s my real world experience.
