Check the size of this monster compared to human beings. It’s the Sharp Aquos 80-inch LCD television. 80 bloody inches! And still, its price tag is only $US5500, which feels low to me given its insane size.
The full HD 1080p TV runs at the obligatory 120Hz for smooth motion during fast-action sequences and games. Sharp claims its dynamic contrast ratio is six million to one. Even if it’s half of that it would still make me happy to have it. The TV comes with apps like Netflix and CinemaNow built-in for the US market, as well as internet access with built-in Wi-Fi. It also has dual USB inputs that allow you to play back images, music and HD video right in.
It doesn’t have 3D but, quite frankly, I don’t give a damn. If I could fit this titan in my studio, I would get one right away. Sadly, I need the space for my bed.

Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 9:20 AMMy 42″ Sharp Aquos is LCD and the blacks on that are quite decent,… not that I’m an aficionado though. I think I’ll wait for glasses free 3D to drop in price and get a 50″. 80″ is just plain silly in my house! #]

Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 9:22 AMif it was plasma it would weigh 100kg! It should really be LED backlit. At least you’ll know it’ll last longer and have better contrast ratios.

Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 11:13 AMLCD cannot reproduce the full 1080 VIDEO resolution like plasma. you may have a 1080 pixels high LCD/LEDLCD but you won’t see them on anything other than a still image.

Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 9:08 PMwhat the shit are you on about? If the vertical pixel count is 1080 then it’s 1080. It won’t matter if it moves or not.
For all the people interested, do check what model of sharp you’re actually getting. Sharp have a fantastic reputation in Japan, but I was really burned on a 32″ a few years ago since the models they sell in the west are not at all the same as the Japanese ones. It was terrible. Oh and their warranty service is shit too.

Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 9:17 AMIf JB et al can squeeze this in near $5K Australian then I will be all over this like a fat kid on cake.

Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 9:54 AMThis comment genuinely made me laugh, expecting an Australian Retailer not to sell something like this at least twice the price of the American RRP. . .

Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 11:52 AMNot to mention they’d never have it in stock, so you would have to pay RRP to order it in, no negotiations on what’s in the back room.

Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 3:05 PMMy guess would be around $15k for Aus.
I guess the days of taking your TV in to a repairer to get fixed are well and truly over!

Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 10:08 AMFor 5.5k I’d buy this for sure.
size > 3D any day.

Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 10:17 AMSure the res of 1080p is too small for a screen that size?

Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 11:27 AMI’m currently looking at the Samsung 60″ 8 series… this is very tempting! I wonder when (if) this will get an Oz release date and RRP.

Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 12:06 PMI really hope some Aus retailer/wholesaler brings this in. I love to get one for the home theatre – movie nights at home would be so awesome
