HTC: ‘iPhone Is For Old People’

There’s almost an element of playground taunting in HTC’s latest claim regarding Apple. No, this isn’t another salvo in the seemingly endless round of patent battles; instead apparently iPhones are the choice only of old people.

The comments are attributed to the acting president of HTC America, Martin Fichter. According to wpcentral, at the Mobile Future Forward conference in Seattle, Fichter stated (based on an informal survey of his daughter’s friends) that:

None of them has an iPhone. ‘My dad has an iPhone.’ There’s an interesting thing that’s going on in the market. The iPhone becomes a little less cool than it was. They were carrying HTCs. They were carrying Samsungs. They were even carrying some Chinese manufacturer’s devices.”

The last bit of his statement’s interesting in and of itself; HTC’s a Taiwanese manufacturer, making them part of the Republic Of China… but in any case, as someone who couldn’t describe themselves accurately as being ‘young’ anymore, what’s so wrong with being old, anyway?[wpcentral]
