The Thunderbolt Express Dock serves up three USB ports (we’re unsure if it’s 2.0 or 3.0), gigabit ethernet, Firewire 800, and — ta da! — another Thunderport jack. It’s not the most elegant-looking port expander, but ethernet on your MacBook Air could be great for those who miss it, and whoever is still a Firewire devotee. As for now it’s just on display at the Intel Developer Forum, so no details on cost or release. [9to5Mac]

Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 2:59 PMIf it had the Ethernet somewhat hidden out the back, it might just be perfect.

Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 4:05 PMIt does.
“…three USB ports, gigabit ethernet, Firewire…”
Now if only it had three USB ports.

Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 4:21 PMNo I mean, an ethernet on the front will just clutter up the whole deal and make it look messy.
Hidden around the back out-of-sight, permanently plugged in would be ideal.

Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 8:16 AMWhile they were at it, it would have been nice to put an HDMI port, and maybe an eSATA on the back as well.
If I really wanted to use this as a docking station I would want to have all my periferals etc hooked up to it, with only 3 usb ports, and everything coming out the front, this wouldn’t really do the trick.
