On September 6, Gizmodo was granted access behind the cordon to tour the progress of the World Trade Center and the 9/11 Memorial. From the first floor to the 71st, see how these incredible structures are taking shape — from the inside.
If you want to check out more on the construction I would highly recommend the “Rising” documentaries. There are 6 eps showing the construction of the different elements making up the new WTC plaza. Really interesting to see the thought behind the design elements and how they are being constructed.
The big green machinery thing is a concrete boom pump used for placing concrete in buildings as they go up. They usually pump the concrete from the ground, up the pipes, several pumps later it shoots out the end..
The whole things gone outrageously over budget and to recoup costs rent is going to be extortionate. Given the current US financial outlook doesn’t have a lot of corporate growth in it’s future I wonder how much of this space is going to sit empty.
There was a scary article some where the other day that just keeping the memorial open and maintained might be costly in the long term.
