Apple Still Might Put USB 3.0 In Their Computers

When Apple added Thunderbolt to their computers, many assumed that Apple’s support for USB 3.0 hit the back burner. Not entirely true. According to VR-Zone, Apple’s still looking to add USB 3.0 to their products and may even do it before Intel does it.

Supposedly, USB 3.0 host controllers have gotten cheap enough that Apple can now justify adding them in. Intel’s timeline to include USB 3.0 in their chips is sometime next year. Remember, USB 3.0 is 10x faster than your USB 2.0 port now for speeds of up to 5Gbs (Thunderbolt is twice as fast as USB 3.0). [Vr-Zone via Apple Insider]

“Thunderbolt is twice as fast as USB 3.0″
Yeah, the non crippled one might be, but you probably won’t know if it’s the full version till after you buy it! If the specs are on the side of the box, no doubt the speed of the crippled version won’t be shown!

For those not in the know.. I think ET is referring to the limited bitrate of the thunderbolt controller used in the new MBAs. It’s different from the MBPs. Slower, cheaper. Not that it matters so much given that there are still only 2 thunderbolt periferals on the market.. USB 3 would have been massively more useful.

Thanks, I’m not that familiar with IOS specs given that I refuse to buy Apple on principle, I actually read about the Thunderbolt thing either here on ‘Giz or ‘LH’. So it go’s to show you don’t need to be smart, just remember enough to baffle em with bullshit! #]

Remember kids, to use the full speed of thunderbolt your going to need many SSD’s in raid, because hard drives arent fast enough :)

Hell, I can’t even saturate USB3.0 with a mechanical hard drive.

My HP Elitebook has 2 USB 3.0 ports, sure not intel chipset but the comparison on the article is a bit off. PC’s support USB 3.0 NOW, while Apple still don’t….
