Apple Handed The Motherboard Of All Patent Lawsuits

Another day, another patent lawsuit. Today’s below-bridge dwelling plantiff is Taiwanese company VIA.

VIA has filed suit against Apple claiming infringement of three patents they own. The patents in question are: US Patents 6253312, Method and apparatus for double operand load, and 6253311 and 6754810, Instruction set for bi-directional conversion and transfer of integer and floating point data.

Company CEO, Wenchi Chen says “We are determined to protect our interests and the interests of our stockholders when our patents are infringed upon.” Hopefully the new patent law signed by the president will put an end too, or at least slow down these sort of antics.

How are their patent claims any more “trollish” than the ones from Apple?

I’m sure it’s merely coincidence that that Wenchi Chen is married to the HTC CEO.

Everyone should sue Apple. Maybe then they’ll think twice about trolling.

I agree, but I think that is what is happening anyway. Especially with this particular suit, just because what it refers to could potentially cause apple to have to rewrite a lot of code. The patent seems to cover some very basic computing stuff…data conversion…so I wouldn’t be surprised if this could potentially cause Apple some serious head aches. Which would be good because right now apple could use a cup of tea, a bex, and good lie down.
