Giz reader @thewilkshake noticed this fine piece of wording at a Woolies in Adelaide. Unable to stand the lack of capitalisation and odd use of apostrophes, he set about fixing it. I just hope he works there! Actually, more kudos to you, good sir, if you don’t!

“Grammar Man” correcting incorrect spelling everywhere!!!
Stew
Monday, August 8, 2011 at 4:00 PMI think it’s Spelling Man who corrects incorrect spelling everywhere.
Spelling Man’s logo is a red squiggle, while Grammar Man’s is a green squiggle.
Sometimes the both parter up together to tackle the most malevolent of crimes against the English language.

Monday, August 8, 2011 at 2:52 PMOh man, you sure taught the guy that made that sign a lesson… Y’know, even though he’ll probably never see that, ever.
Matt
Monday, August 8, 2011 at 3:01 PMI believe you mean “the guy *who* made that sign”
Craig
Monday, August 8, 2011 at 5:44 PMShouldn’t that be ‘whom’?
Sam
Monday, August 8, 2011 at 6:58 PMBoth are accepted as being correct.
Matthew
Monday, August 8, 2011 at 7:08 PMI don’t believe so. Turn it into a question: “Who wrote the sign?” You’d answer with, “He wrote the sign.” – so ‘who’ is correct.
I believe you mean “the guy by whom that sign was made”.
olearymo
Monday, August 8, 2011 at 4:17 PMOh man, you sure taught the guy that corrected that sign a lesson… Y’know, even though he’ll probably never see your comment, ever.

Monday, August 8, 2011 at 3:19 PMWell the word ‘fail’ when used as a noun isn’t 100% grammatically correct either!
Matt
Monday, August 8, 2011 at 3:43 PMYes, that should read “Now with less grammatical failure”.

HindenLagen the Damned
Monday, August 8, 2011 at 4:46 PMYes the capitalisation was bad, however, I was under the impression that using an apostrophe on certain plurals was acceptable (if not encouraged), in numbers, acronyms and one/two letter words to avoid confusion. For example, “mind your P’s and Q’s”, as opposed to, “mind your Ps and Qs”, which may be confusing.
Graeme
Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 5:05 PMNo, not acceptable. Common perhaps, but not acceptable. Along similar lines, you often see 80′s, 90′s. That’s also wrong, it should be ’80s, ’90s. Ps and Qs is correct, P’s and Q’s is wrong by any measure, unless you count sheer volume of numpties getting it wrong as a measure.
