What. The. Hell. Is. Going. On. PEOPLE! HP is selling it at $98 (which makes it a great deal) because they don’t want to think about it anymore, they want to get rid of it and pretend it never happened. It’s a dead device. Dead, dead, dead. Yes, we said that you can flip the tablet into one of many things but that’s at 100 bucks; at 300 bucks the deal isn’t as sweet. Why the hell would you drop nearly 300 bucks on a dead device when you could’ve paid a little more when it was alive and kicking? I don’t understand you internet, I don’t understand you one bit. Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 8:22 AMBecause it’s not $98 for everyone, it’s only $98 if you live in the grand old US of A. Everyone else gets left with their scraps AGAIN. At $300 it might still be a good price for (some) people.

Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 10:04 AMActually it sold in Australia for $98AU. HP worldwide were liquidating the stock and instructed retailers to move it out.
It’s not worth $300, only newbs would pay that much and only technically apt people would really be able to make good use of it in regards to getting another operating system on it and making it an actual useful device.
eBay is the world of “I must win this auction at any cost” (including above retail!) and has not really provided good value for a long time now, even local on-line Auction houses are going the same way.
Bottom line is consumerism is out of control, even in a GFC, and with natural disasters and wars etc going on all over the world.
Get a life people, stop buying for the hell of it and start being a smart and conservative consumer.
Buy the things you need that actually do what you need and allow others who truly want a device such as a Touchpad to buy it and do MUCH more with it then you might.

Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 10:12 AMSure, can you just show me where I can buy it right now in Australia for $98? There is nowhere you can purchase that for $98 in Australia. That’s why it’s on sale on eBay for $300.

Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 4:39 PM… Or, you missed the fact that there aren’t any for sale for $98 anymore. It lasted all of a few hours.
So $300 is still a bargain.

Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 9:28 AMreally ?? some one will pay 300 bucks for something that was $98 few days back and no more apps??? and it is much cheaper to just buy it from us and get a Couriers company in the us to ship it over for cheaper….

Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 10:54 AMHow does one go about doing this? Does anyone have experience using a courier to pick something up and shipping it to Australia? What do you do about power conversion?

Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 10:01 AM$300 makes for a very expensive table coaster. Anyway if people were smart in Australia, they’d be importing the Asus EE Transformer from America for around $400AUD or less.

Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 1:37 PMPerhaps on eBay ~$300 is the real price of the thing in people’s minds?
Perhaps if it had sold in shops for ~$350 people would have bought it? (Yes, I know that the TouchPad parts alone were supposed to have cost HP ~US$320)

Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 2:05 PMPeople see a “bargain” and want to be in on it. The human mind, once locked into “I wanna geddit” mode tends to stick there, regardless of price movements. HP TouchPad is the gadget of the week, everyone wants to “save money”, people don’t tend to do the math.
I’m happy with my $148 32gb model, and will be even happier once Android comes out.
