Idiot 1:
We don’t know much about this kid other than that he is extremely lucky to be alive. Was he trying to do some parkour stunt? I do not know. He hops right up after the train rushes by, but it looks like it could have a limp. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d broken his foot. Stupid! [Break via BuzzFeed]
Idiot 2:
So, we actually know a bit about our second genius. This Australian kid is 12 years old. He spots a cutie on the opposite platform. He crosses over to chat her up. Suddenly, he sees what he thinks is his train coming, so he tries to run back across to beat it. It’s not his train. It’s a through train; it’s not going to slow down. He doesn’t make the jump, and he gets pinned between the train and platform. By some divine fucking miracle, he isn’t killed. He does, however, end up with a broken leg, a broken elbow, and some nasty cuts.
This raises two questions. One: Where does a 12-year-old have to be that he can’t afford to miss his train and be a little late? You don’t have to risk your life, kid, the Hamberg Helper can be reheated. And two: How gorgeous must this young lady have been to warrant a kid doing something this stupid? Unless she looked like Beyonce in her new video, it wasn’t worth it. [The Telegraph]
If there’s a lesson that can be learned here, it’s don’t be an idiot and dart in front of a speeding train. Mmmkay? Mmmkay.

Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 4:22 PMThe first one is pretty freaking amazing! Spot on timing, no margin for error. And stupid of course too, but astonishing anyway. Unfortunately, because it’s so amazing, skilful, and lucky you might get people trying to replicate it. :(
The closest I’ve ever done to to that was diving between the platform and the train (as the train had just pulled in) to retrieve my lost sunnies and then jumping back up to get INto the train before it pulled away. Pretty stupid, but absolutely nothing compared to these guys!

Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 7:02 PMYou must be just as stupid as the people in the video. Nothing to be proud of.

Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 8:35 PMThe second one happened at the train station near me. There are some out here who are a few fries short of a happy meal.

Monday, August 29, 2011 at 10:08 AMConsidering the injuries, it’s amazing he managed to climb on to the platform.

Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 9:00 AMOh, I don’t know, seems like a good way to cull the Darwinian rejects to me, cept for the stress on the poor bloody train drivers! #]

Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 7:02 PM#1 is also Australian, 17yrs old, apparently at Mawson Lakes, Adelaide, South Australia on 11 April 2011. He got a broken foot out of it. According to ninemsn:
“He was convicted of stopping a train and impeding the proper operation of a passenger transport service after train services were delayed for two hours while the near-miss was investigated.
South Australia’s Department for Transport released the footage as a part of National Rail Safety Week, including a voiceover from a train driver explaining the horror drivers experience when people run in front of trains. “

Monday, August 29, 2011 at 9:05 PMApply that same sense of warped logic to all the innocent people killed around the world every day do you? I guess earthquakes are God’s work too? #facepalm
Newsflash: There is no God. Every death on Earth is a matter of chance and circumstance. Nothing more. If anything people killed from the type of above stupid acts are a perfect example of Darwinism.

Monday, August 29, 2011 at 10:09 AMThen there is the girl who didn’t make it. She crossed the tracks to wee in the bushes and didn’t make it back.

Monday, August 29, 2011 at 10:40 AMDear everyone who wishes to take a step onto the train tracks,
Please stay on the tracks at all times. Do not move for a train, the train drivers are given special privileges to not stop.
If you happen to survive, please try again. Remember, the train is your friend, not foe.

Monday, August 29, 2011 at 10:41 AMEveryone has it all wrong, we should be encouraging this type of behavior, if they kill themselves then that are doing themselves and everyone else a favor by extinguishing themselves from the gene pool so they cant spread their seed.
You watch all these videos of kids doing stupid and dangerous stuff and realise that the reality is scary, not because of them putting themselves in harms way but to realise that those kids are the future.

Monday, August 29, 2011 at 12:12 PMIt’s funny to make the Darwinism joke about these f**ktards but don’t forget the poor drivers whose lives are destroyed from the trauma of making a derro-smoothie with their loco.

Monday, August 29, 2011 at 12:35 PMWhat, none of you have every done anything dangerous/stupid when you were a kid? If the answer is no you a) grew up in a cage, b) were/are a total moron geek who sat in front of his computer his whole childhood, or c) you have the worst personality on the planet

Monday, August 29, 2011 at 12:46 PMDangerous and stupid are two entirely separate things.
While on the subject, I had an awesome childhood and was none of those three. I’m simply not an idiot, nor willing to risk my life on such stupidity.
I also don’t appreciate being lumped into such idiotic categories by some unknown internet apologist. You want to risk your life for a few giggles with your mates, enjoy. I, for one, will be glad there will be one less idiot in the world.

Sunday, September 4, 2011 at 10:53 PMThe first video is from Adelaide, South Australia. I’ve worked on this same train network for many years, though I have not personally experienced a “near miss” (or a “near hit”?) like this (er, meaning that I’ve never witnessed said event), but I know plenty of operators who have gone through the same s***.
When you are directly involved with these instances it is literally “brown-trousers” time, though you sometimes will become partially desensitised to it all because you can resign yourself to the fact there is completely f*** all you can do about it.
I’ve also had to deal with heaps of drongos who ride outside on the train’s back footrail, whereby I have to try and drag them inside for their “safety”, but they will often jump/fall whilst at high speed to the ground and can be seen somehow walking away in the distance … all because they don’t want to pay for a $2 ticket.
btw, I’ve always lived by this philosophy … “Never argue with an idiot, no matter how impeccable your logic may be”. ie if said nutbar declines to heed your sage counsel, then it’s a complete waste of your time, energy and sanity; so why bother trying to convince said genius otherwise? It ultimately doesn’t improve your own well-being, anyway!
