This USB Drive Is Thinner Than A Coin And Holds 2TB

The thumb drive you see in this video is thinner than the opposable digit of an infant — and yet it can hold up to 2TB of data.

The “Thin Card” drive, built by Taiwanese manufacturer ITRI and revealed at the Display Taiwan trade show, is a USB 3.0 stick with a capacity between 16GB and 2TB. No word on availability yet, thought the company is currently waiting for an international consensus for the USB 3.0 standard. [Netbook News via Slashdot]

Will believe it when I see it. Considering that we find it extremely hard to fit even 1TB into a 2.5″ SSD, (and when we do, the price is mindblowingly high), I have a hard time believing that there is a 2 *terabyte* USB the thickness of a coin.
Even if it was a proof of concept, it’s still hard to believe.

Considering you can get Micro SD to 64 Gig I don’t see the problem! However I’d like to see the read write specs, just because it’s USB3 doesn’t mean it’ll be that fast! #]

^This. Sure it’ll be USB3 spec’d, but that says nothing about the actual speed of a device. Guaranteed this is gonna be one slow s.o.b ;)

It would need to fit more than 30 microSD size cards into the space and still leave room for the board and usb interface. Big call.

if you remove the connector and casing (i.e., only keep the memory parts), I reckon 32 mSD cards wouldn’t take up a lot of space. Speed is another thing of course…

We can only hope that the technology has been trademarked already, because we all know that Apple always honors trademarks.

50 mb? Luxury! Back In my day, after dusting the old Apple II, we went out and bought a 28 mb card. That cost a fair chunk of my weekly earnings!

Sure it holds 2tb formatted. But just try reading any of it, it’ll turn out to be like the memory card you bought cheap on Ebay.

It’s THINNER than the port it’s designed to fit in to. So…. it still has a fat arse.

My first HDD was 20mb… for the Amiga 500. 1989. Not sure of the cost. I may be wrong. but I recall the entire system being $1500 used….

Piracy was a laugh in those days. Protection still existed, but you had to know people to source software. Drug dealing without laws in this country to give a rat’s arse, or even know how to.

Cinemaware: Wings; Still have an emulator to play it. Sweet.
