Raspberry Pi. It’s really an amazing PC. Not only it’s really tiny, can run Quake III and play back full HD video through HDMI, but it only costs $US25! Check out the video demonstrating Quake III at full speed.
And that’s still a alpha board, with the following specs:
700MHz ARM11
128MB or 256MB of SDRAM
OpenGL ES 2.0
1080p30 H.264 high-profile decode
Composite and HDMI video output
USB 2.0
SD/MMC/SDIO memory card slot
General-purpose I/O
Optional integrated 2-port USB hub and 10/100 Ethernet controller
Open software (Ubuntu, Iceweasel, KOffice, Python)
Pretty bloody amazing. [Raspberry Pi via TechCrunch]

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 9:45 AMok so thats the same spec as most android phones so why are they so expensive . can a gsm radio and screen be $400?

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 10:23 AMThere’s a lot more in a phone than just the cell radio and the screen… think battery, other drivers and hardware, actual body and packaging all components within said body, all the R&D, and the supply and demand curve.
the Raspberry Pi is really just as processor and some ports.

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 11:20 AMCompare the device sizes, then keep in mind that laptops are so much more expensive than desktops…
Also, this is only on the ARMv6 architecture, Android is ARMv7.

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 10:25 AMDon’t worry – it makes as much sense to me as it would in whatever post it’s supposed to be in…
I’m forming my own conclusions, and still find your comment aptly humorous.

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 9:53 PMDo you mean the Giedi Prime of Frank Herbert’s novels, of the David Lynch movie, the miniseries, or the ghastly Son of Frank novels?

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 10:33 AMWatching Quake III there I wondered why I liked it so much back then? #]

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 10:47 AMI can’t make you unthink that, nor can I suggest you shouldn’t think that way… I try not be a fascist, however, in this situation I just think back to the times had in front of Quake 3(three) and they were awesome… Sure it is tired and old now but I still think back as far as river raid on the old Atari and that still fills me with craptacular memories (I was actually young once).

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 11:21 AMFast paced and blasting your friends? And you’re wondering why you liked it so much?
I’m actually looking at this and thinking it’s still better than the majority of games released today.

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 12:28 PMHmmm,.. I still think the original 1&2 were more intense to me… III was good, just seems a bit faded compared to the first two! #]

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 12:37 PMQuake 1 was a bit more intense (to the stage where skill was taken out of it IMO), Quake 2 was a bit slow I thought.

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 11:07 AMAmazing what can run on cheap hardware these days. I remembered that I needed a $1200+ PC to run this game. In today’s standards, I would most likely use this as a HTPC though. Its been way too long since I last played a shoot em up!

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 11:50 AM“Full speed”? It drops to single digit frame rates on multiple occasions.
I suppose at $25 it’ll do though :\

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 2:06 PMIt’s very impressive and I have no doubt that this sort of thing will be released as a build your own computer type thing for students who would like to learn how to do this sort of thing. I can see so much for this thing for communities around Australia who cannot afford a big computer or a phone for that matter.
Case to cover it can cost something like $10 and if you add a few more things, the whole thing can cost $50 and you plug it into a television. I must tell the people at Fitzroy Bassin Elders in Central QLD about this.

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 7:17 PMYou have to remember, this is running it at 1920 x 1080, back in 2000 you would have been lucky to be running this at 1280×960, i myself was rocking 1024×768…
