Telstra Motorola Atrix Due For Gingerbread In September

Gizmodo AU

Over at Ausdroid, they’ve noticed that Telstra’s official support site for Android devices lists the Motorola Atrix as currently “undergoing testing” for its official Gingerbread release, due in September. Gingerbread’s been available for US Atrix owners since June, which actually means Telstra’s starting to speed up its approval processes — if it can indeed meet that September deadline. Those who can’t wait could always just root the Atrix in the meantime.

Wardski, the Atrix is a PHENOMENAL device in the states that is. Telstra is what is KILLING it here in Australia due to their incompetence and bloatware. Simple as that.

I have waited long enough and I’m going to do a bit of gardening and root the phone. I’m over waiting for Telstra, what a joke that will be.

    Hi all,
I was looking forward to getting gingerbread on my atrix so when I say on telstra’s site that it had been approved for release on the phone, it was just up to Motorola to make it available I emailed Motorola to see when they would make it available for the Australian customers this is the response I got from them:

“Thanks for reaching out to Motorola. I’ve read your email and I am ready to provide help.

Thank you for the link you have provided. However, Motorola team work diligently to create a version of Android 2.3 that performed according to Motorola standards on the existing Atrix device.

Based on testing, a decision was made to have Motorola Atrix in Australia to remain on Android 2.2 to ensure best performance.

We hope that you find this information useful and we remain at your entire disposal for future questions you may wish to ask.

If you have further questions or need additional assistance, please contact our Cellular Information Center at 1300 138 823. Our business hours are Monday through Saturday from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm, GMT +10 and we are closed on Sunday and National Public Holidays. ”

So going by that the skeptical part of me says that Motorola have decided to hold back on releasing gingerbread to the Australian customer so that when they release the Photon or atrix 2 in Australia, people will have to go a upgrade to get gingerbread.
So contact Motorola and apply a little bit of pressure on them and it may overturn that bad decision.

The upgrade is at last available. Downloading 2.3 right now.

    Better late than never.
