The 1km Kingdom Tower will dwarf the 828m Burj Khalifa. You will be able to travel through it at 10m per second using one of its 59 elevators. If you want to go up to that observation deck — which is going to be private, apparently — it will take you one minute and 40 seconds to do it. [AS+GG]

Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 9:23 AMI’d love to see the evacuation planning in case of an emergency. I work in a 34 stories tall building in Brisbane and it takes a minimum of 10 mins to go from the top to the safe zone. But climbing down 1Km of stairs? Except of course if they provide parachutes for everyone :)

Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 8:56 PMIt’s totally Padme’s apartment building from the star wars prequels. It even has that little landing pad Anakin leaves on to go murder some children.

Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 12:01 PMI wonder how much movement it has in the top few floors. I know the Burj only sways about 1.5m but with the extra height I’m sure it will increase.
I like sailing but not at 1km up in the air.

Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 12:05 PMFinally,
The future is here. I was wondering how long it would take for prototype styling to make it to the present.
Now, we need to work on Minority Report style cars… Google?

Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 12:05 PMPeople are talking about evacuation plans. Tall buildings such as this, based on the ones in Dubai, don’t evacuate people. On specific floors they have re-enforced areas where people seal themselves into. They are kind of like bomb shelters in the air. They have heat shielding, food, water, and external air supplies. The only problem comes if the building collapses.
