We’ve seen a number of TV deals of late, including Aldi’s $600 47-incher and Kogan’s 46-inch ‘borderless’ HDTV for $850. But this Vivo set is the cheapest 55-inch 1080p TV I’ve seen in a while. Who’s Vivo? They’re based in Sydney, with products designed in Italy, made in China, and sold at places like Dick Smith. This set has two HDMI ports, and 5000:1 contrast ratio. Pickup is free in Melbourne or Sydney, while delivery is $50 metro (nationwide) or $100 rural. [Vivo via OzBargain]

Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 12:10 AMShopping frequently for our next gadget, so cruising the local stores (Canberra, Sydney). The in-store discounts are better than the publicized sales: last item, recent ‘return’ from unhappy ex-buyer, new stock arrived (no display space), nearby store (eg Aldi) has a comparable item, etc.
Instore shopping allows comparative live checking. The ‘contrast ratio’, ‘screen refresh’, etc are theoretical. When viewed side by side, especially the rolling credits of a show, the true facts appear.
