It’s Ridiculously Easy To Steal iPads From Walmart

Californian Walmarts have got a problem on their hands, with a trio of thieves stealing iPads in a very simple ruse involving one man telling an assistant he wants to buy two iPads, which are then set aside for him under a counter.

As the story goes, he then pretends to browse other products, while a female accomplice then steals them from under the counter. She then passes them to a third member of their ring, who puts them in her handbag and walks out with them.

Confined to the Arcadia area of California, the group has apparently stolen $US6400 worth of iPads so far from Walmarts. [Daily World via CultofMac]

Don’t they have scanning things at entries and exits?

Perhaps that’s why they have it put at the counter – because the scanning things are poorly placed once an item is at the checkout.

Some stores use a deactivator at the checkout, so that you’re not going off when you DO leave with your PURCHASED goods.

why don’t they put two under the counter, pay for one of them, and then come back later with the receipt and say that you’ve paid for it and just want to collect… wouldn’t that also work? 2 for the price of 1??
