Robot fighting might seem just a teensy bit clichéd, but at least Real Steel is based on a 1956 short story from the sci-fi/horror writer behind I Am Legend (the book). And really, what you need to know is that it’s got big robots punching the heck out of each other. Video!
You want more? How about fight scenes choreographed by boxing great Sugar Ray Leonard? This behind-the-scenes look gives insight into the motion capture suits and what it takes to get two robots to fight it out… TO THE DEATH!

Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 2:13 PMThey generally do. There have only ever been about 20 decent child actors (at most) in the entire history of human civilisation. …weren’t most of those in Stand By Me or what that Goonies?
Hollywood will never learn

Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 1:38 PMI read I Am Legend, and the movie was a travesty compared to the book.
Hopefully such a translation error will not be repeated for this movie, but this is Hollywood: they’ve already ruined I Am Robot and Bicentennial Man and this time it’s a CG-driven movie with a kid and a (relatively) clean-cut Hugh Jackman. Bad signs, all.

Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 2:17 PMThey were advertising this like mad during Comic Con in San Diego… not very cleverly though; the banners were ambiguous and pretty unattractive. Jackman was apparently there too but I never saw him.

Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 2:36 PMC’mon people, it’s clearly a family friendly action movie, directed by the guy who did Night at the Museum.
Robot Rocky? Yeah, I might watch that.

Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 4:49 PMAnd this Robo boxing is supposed to be happening in 2020 (according to Hugh Jackman in the video – yeah, I watched it)… 9 years? Really?
The kid finds a robot buried in the dirt that looks like it’s been there for 10-20 years. That means that such a robot must already exist, here in 2011.
Seriously, who comes up with these scenarios? At least set it in a realistic time in the future. I could accept 2030. 2050 would be a more realistic ‘near-future’.

Friday, August 26, 2011 at 2:48 PMhey. we already have robot wars. Hosted by that guy who plays Lester in Red Dwarf. So it really isn’t that far from the reality. and with technology advancing they way it is…. why not?

Friday, August 26, 2011 at 2:44 PMOH HELL YEAH!!! i can’t wait to see this movie. This is one of those movies where it was going to be a hit regardless of the lead actor – as long as they can act. But having Hugh just makes it that much more…!!!
