Google Misplaced Biggest Mountain In Continental US

Mt Whitney is the tallest mountain in the “lower 48”. Naturally, it’s one of the most notable landmarks in both the state of California, and the United States itself. Google Maps has no idea where it is.

Gelatobaby discovered the Google Maps mishap on a recent trip to Yosemite. Her iPhone showed the mountain smack in the middle of Yosemite Valley. She subsequently found it listed in three different places in Google Maps. None of them are right.

Oh, hey! I know this one! I know where Mt Whitney is. I’ve been on top of it, even. And it’s most definitely not adjacent to Tijuana, or in Yosemite Valley.

Look, I know its easy to get things wrong on a map. But losing the biggest mountain in the continental United States by hundreds of miles? And misplacing the Inyo National Forest, and the town of Bishop, California, along with it? That’s just embarrassing. [via Gelatobaby]
