Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have provided the first look at the new “Man of Steel,” revealing star Henry Cavill as Superman in the film from director Zack Snyder.
The film also stars three-time Oscar® nominee Amy Adams (“The Fighter”) as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Oscar® nominee Laurence Fishburne (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”) as her editor-in-chief, Perry White. Starring as Clark Kent’s adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, are Oscar® nominee Diane Lane (“Unfaithful”) and Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner (“Dances with Wolves”).
Squaring off against the superhero are two other surviving Kryptonians, the villainous General Zod, played by Oscar® nominee Michael Shannon (“Revolutionary Road”), and Faora, Zod’s evil partner, played by Antje Traue.
Also from Superman’s native Krypton are Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s mother, played by Julia Ormond, and Superman’s father, Jor-El, portrayed by Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”).
Rounding out the cast are Harry Lennix as U.S. military man General Swanwick, as well as Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy.
“Man of Steel” is being produced by Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder. The screenplay was written by David S. Goyer, from a story by Goyer and Nolan, based upon Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster and published by DC Comics. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

Friday, August 5, 2011 at 9:13 AMLooks good. Now if only I can wipe my memory of that bad reboot Bryan Singer’s version I’ll be happy. I hope they realize that thanks to that they have wreaked the Superman joke in Mallrats. http://youtu.be/wqwUdp5-2D8

Friday, August 5, 2011 at 10:01 AMNot sure about Henry Cavill but his resume seems like he should bring the correct amount of gravitas to the role. I really don’t like the suit though, the 3D texture is overly done (just because Spidey had one, Supes has to follow along??) and the boot tops stick out far too much.
I’ll still watch it but if this is indicative of the overall feel of the movie, which is I think why they publish these images, I don’t think it’s not going to push all my buttons.
I must be a bit weary of everything needing to be “gritty”, “textured” and “real” and I’m ready for something different.

Friday, August 5, 2011 at 2:18 PMNot a fan of the texture on the at all.
Stiffest cape ever! Look at those creases on the shoulders. You could use it to slice stuff.
If they have to mod the costume, I hope this is what the new 52 range of DC comics are using for the September release. They have eliminated the shorts there:

No texture though, looks metallic even.
If they arent using it, why bother even calling them the same character.

Friday, August 5, 2011 at 3:55 PMWhy do they have to keep using zod? Surely there are plenty of other super villians to come up against. It sounds just like a rehash.
