HP TouchPad Gets Android With Cyanogenmod

Gizmodo AU

We’ve already shown you how to get Ubuntu up and running on the TouchPad as well as speculation on whether Android on TouchPad is actually real. It’s getting a lot more real thanks to the Cyanogenmod team, who have managed to get an alpha Gingerbread project running on the Touchpad.

RootzWiki got the exclusive on this video, which the Cyanogenmod team admits they sent out as fast as possible “as a blatant publicity stunt to bring attention to our need for a few more touchpads (for developers currently working without them).” It’s not exactly a stable, colour-balanced, touchscreen working project as yet, but it’s very promising. can’t wait, snaffled a 32gb from the local HN on crazy day. WebOS isn’t that bad and look forward to dual boot.

Yay lets remove a tablet OS and install a buggy phone OS. I think ill just keep WebOs. Aside from a larger selection of apps and a few widgets I dont see what Gingerbread offers over WebOS.

I’m not removing WebOS, but I would like dual boot so I can install Zinio (magazine reader) on my $149 TouchPad.

[1] a MUCH, MUCH larger selection of apps.
[2] Many more FREE apps than WebOS
      [3] Android doesn´t have WebOS´ region specific B.S.
[4] Android plays videos other than damn .mov, unlike WebOS
[5] Touchdroid will be maintained by people who actually use the thing, WebOS will be maintained by HP (maybe, maybe not) who currently appear to be doing the financial equivalent of cr@pping in their own hands and smearing it on their own heads.

I´ll be switching my Touchpad over to Android as soon as there is a stable release.

That next batch isn’t coming to Australia, you’ll have to buy them from US because that is the only place they are being released.

I mean really, if number of apps is the most important thing these people should be using iPads.

If a clever and beautiful and truly intuitive OS is what you want, stick with webOS.

I guess Android is kinda in the middle, best of both worlds… just seems a shame.

You shouldn’t worry about the number of apps once it hits around the thousand mark. By that point there’s pretty much an app to do most things you can do with your tablet.

Once you get to the Apple iPod/iPad number of apps, you’re at a point where most apps either duplicate something that already exists or are total rubbish.
