Apple Blocks Galaxy Tab 10.1 Sales Across Europe

Apple’s been granted a preliminary injunction to stop sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 across the entire European Union on the basis of patent infringement. The ban excludes the Netherlands, where Apple has a separate lawsuit pending due to differences in patent law.

Samsung has already been barred from selling its tablet in Australia, where it lost a similar case against Apple. [Foss Patents]

Moral of the story is that everyone needs to stop copying apple and come up with your own $h1t.

      Poor artists litigate…

http://www.everythingisaremix.info/watch-the-series/ <– well worth a watch if you care about the development of ideas and culture as a whole. Part 3 gets specific about tech.

This isn't a story with a moral. It does however highlight the need for patent reform.

Hate to break it to you bud, but most of apple’s ideas weren’t apple’s idea.
plus i really dont get how they can manage to sue samsung for parts of the android operating system and they seem to be making this case out like they actually made the ipad 2 and slapped a galaxy sticker on in, when in reality if you stop being a fan boy and look at the 2 in comparison there are large amounts of differences… so this should work like it does with music they changed like 60-70% of the lyrics and notes.

I disagree with that 50% idea. In a book the words are everything. In software this isn’t the case, the implementation or code is often abstracted from other areas such as the interface. If you implement a search algorithm you should be able to protect it regardless of whether 90% of the code is dedicated to a UI that makes the results look different.

lol, Apple by far did not invent a small rectangular-with-rounded-edges portable computer. Stop chugging the Kool-aid, it costs more and is way less filling!

Ohh please. I just did a search and found a number of cases of Samsung suing other companies other than Apple. It’s business and both companies have in the past made moves to protect their IP, not just Apple.

The fact is, Samsung is making some of Apples hardware… So it doesn’t really make any sense now does it?

Why doesn’t it make sense? Many tech companies compete with one another while at the same time also having relationships that see them cooperating. Hell, Apple still uses Google maps as its default mapping application.

IMHO what wouldn’t make sense is letting companies steal your IP on one product simply because you have a business arrangement regarding other items.

D’oh.. I didn’t hear it had been banned in Oz.. I been waiting for a look at that. Apple can kiss my left butt cheek.. this is one more nail in the coffin for them in my book. The ASUS Slider is looking more and more like the tab I will be buying this or early next year.

I’m rather disappointed they removed Palpatine.

I just loved seeing Palpatine there, twirling that pencil. Cracked me up.

I noticed that the Galaxy Tab in the corner has also been stretched vertically to make it look more like Apple’s tablet.

There is no court that can ban them across multiple countries. Even the Americans can’t do that.

Apple is rotten – to the core, and needs to be stopped from fulfilling its ‘Do Evil’ policy of trying to kill all competition.

This will eventually backfire heavily on Apple. The sooner the better.

*shrug* I hate to say it but in this case I kinda agree with Apple. It’s not just the design of the device itself, it’s the box and presentation as well. The two devices could be confusingly similar.

Having said that, I’m a big proponent of caveat emptor: as a customer if you don’t know what you’re buying, don’t be surprised if it’s not what you expect!

Think about it though, you know it’s Apple, well, because of the familiar shaped fruit emblazened in a few choice locations.

      Like, that thing’s iconic.
