The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the next iPhone is going to be thinner and lighter than the iPhone 4, which isn’t exactly unexpected. But apparently, being thinner and lighter is making the next iPhone a pain to make.
Citing suppliers of components to Apple, the WSJ also says the next iPhone will pack an 8MP camera and use Qualcomm wireless baseband chips. Most interestingly though, is that two of their sources claim that the next iPhone is “complicated and difficult to assemble”. Which means initial production may be lower than expected or the launch could be delayed altogether (though it can’t really be delayed if it hasn’t been announced, right?) [WSJ]

Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 9:13 AMHow thin can phones get before they become un-ergonomic? Then again, if you can make the guts smaller you can fit a larger battery inside a ~9mm thickness…

Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 11:10 AMI don’t like the thin-ness of my phone (Samsung Galaxy S 1) and put a bulky case on it to give it some weight.
I’d love an Android phone that’s a bit thicker, with a massive battery in it.

Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 2:08 PMHTC managed to win me over with a slightly thicker HTC Desire S because of it’s tapered edges.
It really makes a massive difference when you can hold it comfortably.
