If you’re a fan of using an online service to queue DVDs to get sent out to you, heads up that your choices just halved to, well, one. As of September 30, Telstra will be referring BigPond Movies DVD customers to Quickflix.
Quickflicks will make a variable payment to Telstra based on the number of customers who transfer to its DVD rental service. Quickflicks will also acquire BigPond’s library of DVD and Blu-ray disc and equipment.
For Telstra, the move makes sense given its movie download/streaming business, and gadgets like the Telstra T-Hub. And could this be good news for Quickflix fans? The expanded library is a win, and Quickflix says they’ll be servicing the whole of Australia with next day delivery in all major cities. Monday, July 4, 2011 at 2:36 PMI’ve been using this service for over a year and I’m very happy. Movies arrive without issues in the post. Best of all I can rewatch them as many times as I wish, and I return them whenever I wish, never a late fee. Choice is great and I get the full menu of the DVD / Blueray, not the cut down version from other online providers.

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 12:47 PMActually, since my local video rental store has closed down (thank you Piracy), I’d likely use this, if prices were reasonable, and you could actually get what you wanted, when you wanted it… and on blu-ray.

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 2:05 PMI used to use Bigpond Movies to get blu-rays. The what you want when you want it is impossible though. The worst part is when you have movies in your queue that they send you, but you’re not in the mood to watch them.
I cancelled the service due to this reason, I went about 2 months where I didn’t even watch the movies they sent me.

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 4:26 PMlulz – I rent heaps of Blu-rays from Quickflix and have been pretty happy with quality and choice so far (only been a few months tho). Check out the Blu-ray range here:
http://www.quickflix.com.au/Collections/Blu-ray#Newreleases PLUS there is a promo that SMARTHOUSE ran a few months ago with a free 30 day trial including Bluray that looks like its still live – http://www.quickflix.com.au/smarthouse

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 1:17 PMew…DVD’s.
Haven’t bought or rented one in ages.
I either download or stream movies online. I really don’t see any advantages to a physical medium for movies, especially when you can redownload a movie in 10 minutes.

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 3:32 PMI was actually around when Quickflix came into existence and I have a few stories that would raise some eyebrows. I’m surprised they are still going. Have they ever made a profit?

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 4:19 PMI’ve like this service for a couple of years now as I didn’t have a good local DVD store. Would happily go online if the quality level and price point was similar alas it is not. Not sure I’ll move to quickflix as their service isn’t as good. Might be forced into piracy.

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 6:14 PMI’ve been using Quickflix a few months now and overall service is pretty good. Price wise it is considerably less then downloading legit videos, providing I keep watching them and returning straight away.

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 8:09 PMQuickflix have been pretty good. Have been with them for about 3 years now. It has a broad range, only found a few things that weren’t there. The biggest problem i ever had with them was they never send enough dvd’s out per month. Supposed to get 12 dvd’s per month but only manage to fit 8 or so in at the maximum. The wait time for a dvd is quite large too i can only imagine more customers are going to make that worse.

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 9:59 PMI loved the way BugPond announced this to its customers too. Never a mention of Netflix until I read it here (thanks Gizmo).

Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 1:15 PMI dumped quickflix after 1 too many scratched DVDs. Sick of returning and complaining about quality of DVDs and getting no response. It was about 8 out of 10 DVDs not playing through due to some problem. Won’t go back
