Tea Smith is a 32 year old from Perth who’s more into tweeting than the pub scene. As a laugh, she’s offering $500 or an iPad, to the person who finds her a soulmate. “I work with social media. I market online. Why use a dating site?” Video after the jump.
My favourite part about her interview on Sunrise is Kochie jumping in to ask what her favourite app is — like it’s a compatibility indicator. For the record, Tea’s into Angry Birds. [Tea Smith]

Friday, July 15, 2011 at 11:04 AMSlow news day eh Sunrise?

Friday, July 15, 2011 at 11:14 AMI would think about helping finding her a soulmate IF she wasn’t offering an iPad.

Friday, July 15, 2011 at 11:42 AMShe has the wrong attitude about the whole thing. If she wants to find someone and have some sort commitment, spend the time out of your day to look for the possible mate, instead of saying oh i don’t have time blah blah!
She sounds like a lazy sod who cbf’ed… and working in social media, shouldn’t you be social with others? Isn’t that the point?

Friday, July 15, 2011 at 12:48 PMThat’s pretty high functioning for a Perth girl.

Friday, July 15, 2011 at 1:14 PMI’d be too scared to go out with her – she would probably blog about it and I value my privacy!
Jokes aside, I feel sorry for her kids. Not really cool to put them in this position.
Honestly, the whole thing comes off a bit desperate for attention. She looks very uncomfortable. I think it’s all a bit of bravado.

Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 12:49 PMluckily her kids are young .. but there are blogs/tweets about ex’s, that kind of action says something about any persons character.

Friday, July 15, 2011 at 3:10 PMThis is just crazy… :) And weird. Just saw traffic sources coming from Gizmodo and geeked out :)
And yes, Android is perfectly fine. The joke started somewhat as a pisstake of the “win an iPad” crap out there…
And who wouldn’t be uncomfortable having a tongue in cheek blog post, intended for Perth people who know me… land me on Sunrise? :D
Seriously, hilarious. Weird, mind tripping, hilarious stuff.
Thanks :)

Friday, July 15, 2011 at 3:22 PMIf you’re down to offering ‘prizes’ to get people to find you a ‘soulmate’ I am pretty sure you know where you stand and it ain’t good.
Oh and FYI when you meet someone and find out they are your ‘soulmate’ an iPad will be about $100. That’s how long it takes to find the right person.

Friday, July 15, 2011 at 4:07 PMYou aren’t so good with reading comprehension, are you, cayal? Google ‘tongue in cheek’.
cayal
Friday, July 15, 2011 at 6:14 PMBen – What are you talking about? I know what tongue in cheek is. It hasn’t nothing to do with the actual iPad itself. It’s more to do with the time it takes to actually finding and knowing someone.

Friday, July 15, 2011 at 3:52 PMWoah – Some people take themselves and life way to seriously. Lighten up people – if it doesn’t personally involve you, just smile and be on your way.
Sheesh!!!
Good on you Téa

Friday, July 15, 2011 at 3:43 PMIt’s all a bit of fun Cayal. I have no problem finding dates. Thank you for your ‘advice’.

Friday, July 15, 2011 at 6:21 PMWhat exactly is the point of this?
It’s not even funny it’s just a person doing what thousands do (online dating) but makes you sound either desperate or lazy? I really do not get what the ultimate goal here is?
Aside from that, it did prove what well all know about Sunrise.

Friday, July 15, 2011 at 5:19 PMThanks :) Except for #replythreadfail… it’s funny…the majority get it, but there are a few who don’t… and think I am desperate. It’s hilarious and I am flattered that one of my favourite blogs has my big arse in HD on it. haha

Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 10:58 AMDirected to everyone in general.
I’m sorry but the days of ‘the world is so fast paced/don’t have time to do stuff anymore’ as an excuse are long over, and using it lets people know you are pathetic and insignificant. MAKE TIME, make yourself better than the hoards of people still trying to justify their lazyness.

Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 12:46 PMWell that politically incorrect comment did not go down well at all and the use of the word clients?! Dear me for a “Brainiac” she really lacks discretion and insight. I have a few psychologist friends who were keen to give a diagnosis.
I wonder if she ever stopped to think that net dating might not be working for her because of her own actions and/or personality? This stunt will quite possibly repel any well educated man and attract the very cesspool of sleaze she is attempting to break free from. She is already in a demographic which unfortunately makes it harder for her to find men, why make it harder?
She wants someone “not bogan, educated but not pretentious” this stunt IS really bogan, its a Sunrise trash story and there’s nothing more bogan than that plus her description of herself is quite pretentious.
I see the funny side and how cleverly social media and marketing has been used to make this viral and kudos to her for being exceptionally skilled in that area. I don’t think she is desperate however this woman genuinely does want a soul mate and I hope selling herself in this way doesn’t jeopardize this for her in the long run.

Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 5:32 PMHi Shaz,
To be fair, it was at 5:30am, with 2 hours sleep, after a 24 hours that would make anyone who was not ‘media prepped’ slip up. Unless you’ve been there, it’s really easy to see it that way.
I haven’t seen the video (still living in happy denial that it even happened tbh ;)), but I am known in Perth for being a bit politically incorrect and generally like to push buttons.
That I did. The primary goal was to see how a combo of social media + letting the traditional media sweep up a ‘viral craze’ can work. There’s some method to the madness, and truthfully, it was something designed to test my strategies (I have been writing a humor book on social media for 6 months)… it was intended to be isolated to Perth, the West Australian article, get a few hits, then that was it. National story was a shock and I spent most of the day laughing in disbelief. :D
The “find me a soulmate” thing… just the right gimmick, the right product… and yeah… using the word “clients” without “air quotes” — funny. Woops :)
If I had a do over and time to think about it I probably would have been more prepared, but, thems the breaks :)
It won’t jeopardise me, because I have my core group of people who get it. And the naturer of the media is that I am already forgotten. I wonder if the chk chk boom girl is recognised today? :D
