One Third Of iPhone Users Think They Already Have 4G

Our friends at The Loop found a pretty interesting survey that finds 34 per cent of all iPhone owners think their phones have 4G. Of course, the actual number of people with 4G iPhones is zero.

I’d say something snarky about people being dumb, but given how many people have iPhones, the alphabet soup of tech specs is simply more than most people could be bothered to learn. They just want a smartphone that works well. It’s easy to forget that in the gadget trenches sometimes.

Just goes to show how people are just mindless sheep who buy a phone just because “everyone else has one”… and don’t even know what the phone does or does not do!

    This doesn’t surprise me…

Everyone thought the “3G” in “iPhone 3G” meant that the phone was 3G capable (it is but that’s not what 3G stood for – 3rd generation) so using that logic it makes sense that the iPhone 4 would be 4G capable, right? haha

Sorry to say Alex, but 3G is exactly what it stood for. There never was a iPhone 2, the iPhone 3G was the second generation, but 3G capable. In hindsight this is leading to the confusion in the iPhone 4 (which is technically the 4th Generation)

      iPhone – 1st Gen
      iPhone 3G – 2nd Gen
      iPhone 3Gs – 3rd Gen
      iPhone 4 – 4th Gen.

Umm Alex I’m afraid you’re mixed up there. The iPhone 3G was, in fact, SECOND generation. The 3G did, in fact, stand for ’3G’ in the phone internet speed sense.

Your conclusion isn’t quite right: “They just want a smartphone that works well”.
No, many of them just want an “iphone”, the smartphone aspect is a bonus.

This is part of the strength of brilliant marketing and should be admired.

I’ve conducted my own survey over a long period of time and found 91.62% of iPhone users also think they are cool.

I found 8.38% had their iPhone given to them when a family member upgraded to the next coolest release.

A staggering 99% had never had an original thought.

Perhaps people taking this survey thought that 4g was the the actual iphone 4 like 3GS iphone, not realising that the survey was talking about what wireless service they had.
