Thought the situation at Nokia was dire already? They’ve just reported their first quarterly loss in 18 months, recording $US521 million loss, compared to the $US322 million profit they made in the same period last year.
Sales of phones dropped 20 per cent to 88.5 million devices in the last quarter, which can partly be attributed to the fact that everyone and his dog knows Nokia has bigger and better products on the way in the form of Windows Phone 7 devices. But had Nokia soldiered on with Symbian and Meego, I wonder if the situation would be any different? [Nokia and Bloomberg]

I really think Nokia need to get their design team in swing and make some good designs like they used to such as the 7110 rather than just be another drop in the ocean with a standard slate phone. Phones are quite a fashion item these days and nokia need to make something pretty or stylish to be noticed on the market.

Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 2:04 PMThe nokia results is a reflection of Trojan Steve’s leadership as he was critical of Symbian and dismissed MeeGo. Boasting about the Nokia Searay, which is an N9 that operates on the Windows OS soon after the N9′s launch highlights this, not to mention the burning platform. Is the Windows phone something to rave about? I had a chance to use one in a shop and remained underwelmed. When I saw pictures of the Searay, I thought this was a Windows phone disguised as a Nokia
