Microsoft Demands Samsung Pay Royalties For Every Android Phone It Sells

HTC’s beginning to look like it got a good deal the other month, paying just $US5 to Microsoft for every Android phone it sells, compared to Samsung’s $US15. These royalties are based on patents Microsoft holds, which Samsung’s utilising for Android phones.

Samsung’s understood to be asking for a lower rate at $US10 per device, if Microsoft is willing to form a “deeper alliance” on the Windows Phone 7 platform, according to Reuters. [Reuters]

What are these patents? I really hope they aren’t something bullshit like “a device that shows notifications”.
