LaCie’s Rugged Mini Hard Drive Is Kind Of Begging To Be Abused

I’m pretty paranoid about losing my data to a hard drive failure, so the LaCie Rugged Mini drive is at once awesome and terrible for me. It’s great because the thing’s fast and basically indestructible, but I can’t help thinking I’ll just screw with it until I find a way to break it.

The tiny new hard drive is about half the size of LaCie’s larger Rugged Safe drive, has USB 3.0 and all of the protections of the older model, like shock and drop resistance. But it also adds rain and pressure resistance, to the point that LaCie claims you can drive a one-ton car over it and it will be fine. Really! How is anyone supposed resist that kind of challenge? I have an older verson of this with USB, firewire 400 and wirewire 800 and I have to say, while it is nice and fast, it isn’t the most reliable drive I have ever owned.
