Monday, July 25, 2011 at 11:30 AM1) All the new Apple iMac HDDs are Seagate. All models except the chepest one come standard with 1TB capacity. That “very small number” mentioned in the Apple release is obviousy a relative number.. compared to the number of stars in the galaxy.
2) Only the Seagate drives that Apple fiddled with to make into a non-standard 7-pin SATA connector for the iMac have a problem. Seagate havn’t issued a recall on standard 1TB HDDs for the drives they sell elsewhere.
Therefore: Apple screwed up and are mincing words. They only mention Seagate’s name in attempt to pass the buck on what is a pretty big issue (“we did something that may result in you losing all your data”). What Apple did here is low and very few people will understand this.. I wouldn’t expect the typical Apple user to understand.

Monday, July 25, 2011 at 7:05 PMPretty much this. There really wasn’t any reason Seagate had to be mentioned here at all. It’s just a poor workman blaming his tools.
Especially when Apple soldered those heat sensors or whatever, on their iMacs to prevent people from simply swapping for larger HDDs, to force them to choose the more expensive options in THEIR store.
Scummy as hell.
