Hate Final Cut Pro X? Adobe And Avid Want Your Love

Heads up: Adobe and Avid are both offering crossgrade discounts to disgruntled Final Cut Pro users. Maybe it’s the new interface and missing features, or maybe you’re pissed off that Apple took FCP 7 off the market. Either way, discounts baby!

Final Cut Pro X is available from Apple’s Australian Mac App store for $350, while Adobe is offering switchers (from any version of FCP) no less than 50% off CS 5.5 Production Premium or Premiere Pro CS 5.5 (Mac/Windows) when purchased through Adobe’s online store. Just enter the promo code: SWITCH.

Adobe is still working on the Australian version of its switch site, but in a phone call, a local rep said I could refer to the US terms and conditions for the fine print. The only issue I have with Adobe: how high Aussie prices are compared to the US, and how much of a pain in the arse it is to buy from the US site. Our dollar is higher, damn it.

Meanwhile, Avid is offering FCP users (excluding X) a crossgrade to Media Composer 5.5 for just $US1000 bucks (you save $US1500).

So did Apple crap the bed on this one, or are you in love with iMovie Pro Final Cut Pro X?
