It’s hard being Michael Bay, what with all the money he needs to count and women he needs to objectify. Plus, one shitty, loud, oversaturated three-hour car commercial is as good as the next, so you can’t really blame the guy for re-using footage from one in another. He’s got robot testicles to design!
For many, the very existence of Transformers 3 is so insulting that it’s hard not to feel further affronted by the fact that its director can’t even bother to shoot new footage—in any event, as /Film points out, it’s not the first time Bay has done this. [via /Film]

Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 1:50 PMMeh, take it for what it is. I mean, how serious can we really get about robot aliens who turn into vehicles even though it just seems a little pointless most of the time. Just enjoy the “droid deathmatches” and don’t sweat the crappy stuff.

Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 1:55 PMYep, that’s a reuse. Saved probably a month and a few mil in the schedule & budget, as the physical effects was in the can and was ready to go for the CGI effect overlays.

Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 3:20 PMI originally thought this was another ripoff scene from his other movie ‘the Island’ which actually was a ripoff/similar scene from ‘Bad Boys 2′.
But this time he actually did use scenes from another one of his movies.
lol… just lol.

Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 4:09 PMWow, he tried to polish a turd twice!

Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 1:24 PMYou actually can polish a turd. The Mythbusters did it.

Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 4:51 PMHe re-used actors too – and the basic plot.

Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 5:37 PMTransformers 3 was awesome either way, better than the first 2. Taken for entertainment value, it was a bloody good time. Oh and I don’t recall any testicles in the 3rd movie?

Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 8:39 PMOn the positive side, at least he used his own work? He could’ve been like James Cameron and just re-used a Russian book…

Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 9:48 PMWhat a stupid, bitter article. Plenty of films recycle footage. If you watch the pre 90s Disney Rennaisance footage, pretty much everything was used 3-4 times in all of their movies.
Michael Bay reused his OWN footage, no-one notices except for film nerds, and he saves a tonne of money… So what’s the problem? Despite his reputation for big expensive pictures, Michael Bay if nothing else, uses his budgets wisely. The first Transformers saved millions by using flood-damaged cars from GM in return for product placement, keeping that movie <$150 million with cheap stunts.
Idiots who don't know anything about film will jump on the hating Michael Bay bandwagon.

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 8:59 AMI guess it just helps me to not care when i pirate his movies?

Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 11:37 PMlook im sorry but i liked transformers… lets be honest how seriously can you take a movie that is talking about alien robots which just so happen can turn into human cars. The movie isnt going to win an oscar or anything but its a good romp of fantasy for 2.5 hours. If you take it like that well then its not so bad after all.

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 9:18 AM+1, like, etc.
A great “switch your brain off” popcorn flick. I went in expecting to be disappointed and rather enjoyed it.
Take it as it is, and it’s a great movie. Try to make it more than that, and you’ll be disappointed.

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 2:46 AMThere was a he’ll of a lot of product placement, especially cisco.
They even did a special close up of a cisco modem for a second or so.
Kinda pissed me of for some reason, other than that.. The movie stuttered half way through, so I got a free ticket :D!!
I only saw cause I got to sit next to my dream girl :)))))

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 3:13 AMIt’s just so fashionable to make fun of Michael Bay and Transformers, really just great if you don’t want to be the nail that gets hammered. Sheeple. The first one was fantastic, and that sentiment was widely echoed at the time. Then it became a trend to hate Michael Bay and everyone forgot and went along like the good little drones, terrified of being called out on it.
Simon Reidy
Monday, July 4, 2011 at 9:20 AMOr it could just be the fact that the first one was alright and the sequels actually did suck?

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 9:33 AMI think your keyboard broke down for 40 keystrokes!
“The first one was fantastic (let’s just forget the second one!), and that sentiment was widely echoed at the time.

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 10:32 AMThe second movie was pretty terrible though, seriously.
I haven’t seen the third, not going to waste my money at the cinema, and 2D screenings are at odd times.

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 7:16 AMAt least re-using was a greener option :)

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 9:35 AM+1, first thing I thought.
More greener and more socially responsible yet haters gotta hate.

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 9:34 AMI’m in agreement with those people who think an artist reusing his own work to save a few bucks is perfectly ok (provided of course he doesn’t try to sell it as wholly original work).
To me, the main problem with the film was that it was 30 minutes of pretty impressive action, 60 minutes of reasonably relevant dialogue, and 60 minutes of completely pointless bad jokes, gratuitous booty shots, and maudlin moaning and groaning. Did the parents have to be in it all? Did Josh Duhamel and his soldiers contribute ANYTHING? Nope. Pointless. They could have made a tightly woven 100 minute film, had 30 percent more screenings, and bored everyone a whole lot less (and save even more money).
People don’t want Bay-bashing? Well he should learn that less is sometimes more.
Damien
Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 3:52 AMI agree with everything you just said, except the part where you implied Michael Bay is an “artist”.

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 9:36 AMWith all the “it was better than the second one” sentiment going ’round, I think I will actually see TF3 in the cinema. Thanks guise!
As for all the hating on the “Bayformers” – the whole Transformers brand exists for the sole purpose of selling toys to ~12 year old boys. Hate on that if you must. I’m gonna turn back my mental clock and relive a simpler time.

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 9:37 AMTransformers 3 was actually very good.
Well produced, packed with action, the acting…. nevermind, and the different characters were erratic but amusing.
Two thumbs up.. and one unhappy face for the vinegar in this article.
Lord Crumplebottom
Monday, July 4, 2011 at 2:32 PMExcept, it’s the same damn movie as the second one!
Shin 0bu
Monday, July 4, 2011 at 4:47 PMMaybe you illegally downloaded Transformers 2 and watched it thinking it was Transformers 3 that’s why you thought it’s the same movie. Else, I can’t find any other reason why you’d think they are the same, and with that I meant besides being a bitter troll.
Paul
Monday, July 4, 2011 at 9:45 AMWasn’t the original shot ‘ruined’ because a stuntman got hurt? Rather than redo it all he chose to use footage he’d already shot. Why is this such a problem? And yeah, what is with the needlessly hateful article? yeah, yeah, we get it, you’re jumping on the ‘let’s hate’ Bay/Transformers, etc bandwagon; ’cause that’s like the y’know, cool thing to do. Yawn.
Aaron
Monday, July 4, 2011 at 11:40 AMIt’s only a bandwagon if there isn’t any real reason for it to exist.
The fact is, Transformers is an over-the-top action flick with a horrible plot.
I enjoyed the first one, yes check your brain out when you walk in but it was still fun and cool. I didn’t bother seeing the second one.
The third one I couldn’t help but wonder wtf went so horribly wrong between the first one and the third.
It’s only a bandwagon if we can’t list atleast 20 massive plotholes in this movie, it was a pretty bizarre experience to be honest.

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 11:59 AMLol @ link to the other video of pearl harbour. As many people in the youtube comments point out. Getting permission from the navy and then paying for a quick flyover of one of their ships is really not worth re-shooting. In each case it’s like 2 seconds of footage. But the haters gotta grasp at straws sooner or later :P

Monday, July 4, 2011 at 4:32 PMJust came out from IMAX from TF3 where I contributed my $30 for the overpaid hollywood directors, producers, actors, studios, etc. By the way it is the best 3D movie since Avatar! Amazing footages, especially the start when showing the war on Cybertron. Watch this movie if you can in 3D.
