Aussie TiVo Outages And ‘Full-On Maintenance’ Next Week

Gizmodo AU

Customers were notified yesterday that services like CASPA On-Demand, My Account and TiVo Genie will be down beginning August 3, and continuing on and off until Monday August 8. And if you’re setting up a new TiVo in the window, you won’t be able to activate it, either.

In Australia, TiVo is licensed by Hybrid Television (owned by the Seven media group). Hybrid’s CEO told iGadget Report that “The outage is due to full-on maintenance of both the TiVo and CASPA platforms to support our increased base of users.” [iGadget Report and TechAU]

Scheduled windows:
Wednesday, August 3 – 10am to 5pm (AEST)
Thursday, August 4 – 10am to 5pm (AEST)
Friday, August 5 – 10am to 5pm (AEST)
Monday, August 8 – 8am to 8pm (AEST)

What increased user base. Everyone I’ve talked to about Tivo have said they are staying away from it and are telling everyone they know the same. Unless this downtime dose add something new then Tivo will continue to suffer in Australia.

^ I know a lot of people rip on it and everything, but I bought one for my old man (he’s almost 70), and it was easy enough for him to learn how to record his programs and series link them.

The good thing about them is the ease of use for non-tech savy. But it is true for the tech savy they are slow, crude and expensive.

Totally, My parents are exactly the same… I’ve tried buying them heaps of media streamers, set top boxes, and even stereos and they’ve never figured out how to use them… The TiVo they picked up straight away and I haven’t had any more of those dreaded family tech support calls again :D

I love my TIVO, I have had mine since they first released them in Australia. The outage isn’t a big deal as most people are at work during the outage windows and its not like your TIVO will stop working, its just the online services will become unavailable.

Agreed with all comments above except Dan Miller. TIVO rocks my world. It works, and works well. Sick of hearing so many negative comments on this unit from what can only be non-users.

I’m very techo and the last thing I want when I watch TV is to faff around. TiVo just works.

Another big TiVo supporter – what a great, simple piece of kit. Really disappointing to hear people who don’t even own one bagging it. The very first thing TiVo suggested and recorded for me was “Miss Nude Australia” – he knows me that well ;)

Tivo’s online ‘genie’ is still not functional – a day after the maintenance was meant to be completed…
